Need brake parts! Help!

I need a brake booster, and brake master cylinder.

The price Big O Tires gave me was $282 for the Booster, and $63 for the Master cylinder. Total repairs and all with a brake flush, $710

I don't want to pay that much.

What's the best thing for me to do? Where can I order the parts cheaper? I'm not in a big hurry, but getting it fixed before winter would be great.

My girl is a 1996 Honda Prelude Vtec.

Please help me!

Re: Need brake parts! Help!

Maybe try O'Riley's or Autozone.

Cheapest way would be get a used one from a part-out or junkyard and install it yourself. It's not difficult.

I've never done any car work other than change a tire, battery, and add fluids. What's the best way to learn what I'm doing and fix it myself? And how hard would it be to find Prelude parts from a junkyard?

Re: Need brake parts! Help!

Are you replacing the ones on your car? If so, then you should be getting a core back from the price.

Re: Need brake parts! Help!

Yes, they will be replaced. The core is like $45 is all. I'd like to save more than that. I really need to know where to buy from.

Most places I've looked show "remanufactured". Is that typical, or should I look for new parts?

Re: Need brake parts! Help!

The downloadable service manual should explain everything. As for remanufactured, that's about all you can get for our old cars. The remanufactured ones are just as good as new really. I had to get a remanufactured water pump for mine and it's perfect.

Re: Need brake parts! Help!

If you've never done any work to a car I wouldn't risk fixing it yourself, especially a vital system such as brakes. Maybe purchase the parts cheaper yourself, call around to shops and get a quote, then go from there. Personally I wouldn't have Big O tires work on my vehicles...

That's what I'm doing currently.

http://www.autopartswarehouse.com/se...ooster&submit= This one doesn't seem like it's for the VTEC Prelude. I changed the car model on the side and it shows $192 now

Thanks for the links, guys. I'd appreciate more as well. The cheaper I get it, the better. So far the cheapest is O'Reilly's auto parts at $172 for the booster and $34 for the cylinder, not including the core charge. I'd also prefer something like this so I can just bring my old part back to their shop and get the core deposit back, right? Or will they make me ship it out somewhere myself?

Re: Need brake parts! Help!

You just bring the core back to the parts store whenever you swap parts around and receive the core refund, real easy exchange.
