What do i have?

I have a 1994 Honda prelude Si. It is a dohc f22b. Is that good? I thought i had an h23a1 until i looked at the stamp on the block.

Re: What do i have?

The f22b is practically the same as the h23a1. They were used in Japanese Preludes(4th gens).

Welcome the forum!

Re: What do i have?

This is the question that has haunted the Prelude scene for many years. They are very similar engines, yet also very different...

Specs:
F22B:
9.5:1
148 lb/ft @ 5000RPM
158 hp @ 6000RPM

H23A1:
9.8:1
156 lb/ft @ 4500RPM
160 hp @ 5800 RPM

Re: What do i have?

With the compression that low I would boost the F22b...

F22A1 is better for boost. Your motor is closer to H23 eventho its bearing an F-series name. Since it's closer to an H-series motor, it's better to keep it N/A, but that's just my opinion.

it's simliar but has lower compression, so boost would be perfect. Only thing that would concern me is the availability of aftermarket/replacement parts for the block. I'd imagine the head is the same as the h23 but not sure about the block. Hopefully you do not have FRM sleeves, if that's the case boost i'm sure it could handle more than vtec motors stock.

check this guy's build to give you an example of what to expect outta the jdm f22b:

Re: What do i have?

i ran 8lbs for three years on a stock block h23. dsm build.
i'm ripping everything and redoing everything on my 4th gen. so i'll have a dsm setup if you're interested. and to my knowledge the f22 is the same exhaust manifold bolt pattern as the h23.
