Should I buy this 92'?

1992 Honda Prelude w/H22A Engine 200HP! - For Parts or Project - Kingston Cars For Sale - Kijiji Kingston Canada.

It would be my first car, it definitely needs some work, and I've been talking to the guy through email the last two days, he told me it would probably need a windshield, brakes, starter and the muffler fixed before passing safety. An estimate of what that stuff would run me would be appreciated.

I want the car pretty bad, and the price is very fair imo, obviously i felt it would be best to get the opinions of those who know a hell of a lot more about these cars than I do.

That rust is pretty severe.. but for $900 id say go for it. The motor alone is worth about that if it is indeed a relatively low mileage h22a.

****, yea...that rust IS pretty bad...but thats "Honda Rust" for ya. Every Honda out there gets rust above the wheel wells. In fact my dads Honda del sol had some rust there and we just got around to fixing that up...but if your willing to work on the car, it doesnt sound too bad actually.

Re: Should I buy this 92'?

Check out my build in my sig. Bought my prelude 93 VTEC last year when I was 16 for 500. Had bad rust. But now I have a rust free shell, a running h22, and $2000 dollars in debt at 17!!! Go for it man... Those problems are minor and can be fixed, rust not so much, thats expensive and a pita sometimes. Good luck to you kid!

Re: Should I buy this 92'?

For $900 hells yes. This is all in American $, but the windshield wouldn't be more than $300 to have a new one put in (I've put 3 in my civic for less than that apiece). The exhaust would be about the same for a fix. The body work would be somewhere in the $1-2k range with new paint. Starters and brakes are both semi-cheap, I've never done a starter but brakes are easy to do yourself.

Re: Should I buy this 92'?

Thanks for the responses.

I went and looked at the car today. The rust shown in the picture is pretty severe, and I would like to get it fixed, don't know if I have the money to do that at the moment though. The engine was very, very nice and clean. Started up, and sounded great, I checked everything on the inside, it all seemed to work fine, power windows, the sunroof, heat, etc. The car being lowered is also pretty nice.

I wanted to drive it, but it didn't start up the second time (starter's going, as he told me a few days ago) it's too bad I didn't get to take it for a spin, because it felt like it had some nice power.

No clue what I'm gonna do yet, I really like the car, so I'll make a decision within the next few days.

Re: Should I buy this 92'?

Really? The motor sounded, and looked great. I have time to put into the car + two cousins who are mechanics with their own shops. Its my first car though, so I am a little iffy.

Re: Should I buy this 92'?

Ya if it didnt start the 2nd time i would not give his full asking price. You dont know if its just cause of the starter. could be for other reasons. You have to think why is he selling it ya know?

Re: Should I buy this 92'?

Exactly. I've questioned the guy quite a bit about the car, he did just buy a new car so I assume thats his reason for selling. I'm gonna offer him $1100 for everything, $200 less than his asking price of $1300. I think its fair.

Holla!

Do you live in Ontario? Where at?

I live in Kitchener/Waterloo in Ontario. Was wondering if there are any other real Lude lovers in this province.

Re: Should I buy this 92'?

I would run a compression test on the motor, and find out about oil consumption.
sounds like a good deal, but you don't want a rusty, automatic, and a motor that's on its way to failure.
