vtec runs rough after swap, o2 sensor? need help!

i have a 96 prelude and i just did the h22a swap. the car will start but it runs extremely rough. ive researched and i dont know what the problem could be. it runs like it has a miss, and i do know there is a lot of carbon build up in the cylinders. when it idles, black smoke comes out of the exhaust.
i have new wires, plugs, distributor and i cant figure out what the problem could be.

could the o2 sensor be different between the 92-95(obd1) and the 96+(obd2) preludes?
and could that be why it is dumping too much gas in because it is reading wrong?

going to check the cel code this weekend,
any ideas and help would be greatly appreciated.

could it be a possibility of a valve stuck open or something?
anyone know quick fixes for that?

are you sure you have the RIGHT firing order?
its an easy mistake and can sometimes be overlooked.

i checked my engine codes today and found that 2 codes are being thrown.
o2 sensor heater and no 1 cylinder position sensor.
yes the distributor is obd1
and what is the correct firing order?
thanks for responding!

Re: vtec runs rough after swap, o2 sensor? need help!

alright' ITS FINNALY RUNNING!
i took the valvecover off after i got the motor to TDC and the cams were WAYY off.
lucky for me i didnt bend any rods or valves. PHEW. so i redid the timing.
goes to show you never know what your getting when you buy used.
now after it was running i noticed it was still running awful but on time!
i let it run for a bit and i seen lots of smoke comming off. i looked underneath and it was the catlytic converter. it was red hot. makes sense why it has so much back pressure and couldnt idle right when it was warm. so i have a new one comming in tomorrow and ill be able to install it next week!
Brodie94 Thanks, i checked the firing order and it was off aswell. so thanks for all of your help :)
should be back on the road next month!
