I can't stand Shell. They're so full of their own sh*t. I've been using Chevron 93 octane in my turd.

Re: Best gas to use...??

Shell V-Power is where it's at. Been using since the first day I got my first Prelude and never looked back. Do some research on it and compare it to some other premiums and I think you'll like what you see.

PS - Phantom I feel like me and you just have completely opposite opinions lately haha.

PPS - Personally I would use Sunoco premium if we had Sunoco stations around here, but we don't.

We've only got one or two Sunocos around here or I'd use them as well. I generally run anything from Shell, BP, or Kroger. Just whatever's cheapest. I don't normally run "local" gas, but that doesn't mean they're bad

Re: Best gas to use...??

Shell V-Power is a must for me! Then, I have tried using BP Ultimate. It is as close as Shell performance wise, but not entirely. I have used unleaded premium at every gas station that my Prelude parked on. Wal-Mart or Murphy USA is a last resort for me. Sam's Club is cheap, but not as good as Shell. Also, in South Carolina, We have a grocery store called, Ingles. In my opinion, it is also a last resort. Finally, some gas stations here sell 100% pure gasoline without any ethanol. From my experience, 100% pure gasoline is a 10% increase in mileage from the pumps that states 10% ethanol in their gasoline. However, I barely pump 100% pure gasoline into my gas tank. Anyways, Here is my personal thought. Shell uses additives in their gas, right? So, if you want to make your pump at any other gas station like Shell, go into the gas station then find some fuel additives. In addition, un-average or higher gas prices comes with great quality; on the other hand, average gas prices equals conventional quality, depending on location.

I also have a personal distaste for Shell because they're a pain in the ass to work for... I work in the oilfield, and when I hear Shell, I cringe. The Shell stations where I'm at are an average of $0.15 a gallon higher as well.... and as much as I love my Prelude, I don't think the tired old H22 gives a d*mn one way or another which gasoline I put in it, as long as it's 93 octane.

There are two gas stations where I'm at that have zero ethanol in their fuel. However, they only offer up to 92 octane (still acceptable) and it's as high as V-Power. I put that in the car whenever possible. THAT truly makes a difference in my car.

Re: Best gas to use...??

ive read everybodys post and it seems like, basically, as long as its premium, its good gas right?..

yea i dont use wal-marts gas.. i live (at the moment) in oklahoma, we dont have a chevron.. the major gas stations is, phillips 66, shell, 7-11, and conoco..

im wanting to only put one of those gases in my tank when i travel.. i heard it was bad (not that bad) but not a good idea to mix gases.. but idk.. i jus want the best when i travel..

Go with Shell, use it in my dad's vette and in my Lude, never given us any trouble, you definately notice the difference, I would definately stay away from Walmart. They ruin the economy and prob. don't know **** about gas. ;)

Re: Best gas to use...??

The biggest factor is no ethanol. I don't have much experience with Shell but on my way home from a trip I filled up with v-power and yielded about 10% less fuel economy and didn't notice any noticeable improvement in way it ran. To me it was almost like using ethanol blend. Don't know if that's just how it is or if I happened upon some bad gas but I'd never stop in a shell station again. I try for Cenex stations if I can or anywhere that is specifically ethanol free.

Re: Best gas to use...??

I get my gas from the local Kroger store because of these reasons:

A. Their gas contains no ethanol, and I have noticed an improvement in MPGs because of it.

B. They are one of the very few places here in Kansas that offer 91 (premium) octane. I have never seen anything above 91 either.

C. Because I buy my groceries there, I have a shoppers card which yields me 2 cents off a gallon at the pump, if I spend 50$ I will get 10 cents off a gallon, pretty great because I can save up points on the card (1$ = 2 points, every 100 pts is = 10 cents off) for the whole month and end up getting 30-40 cents off a gallon (I fill up once a month, I live close enough to KSU to walk).

Re: Best gas to use...??

I cant believe no one said anything about traffic at the station. The best gas at a station that does little business will not be as good as cheap gas at a station that is always busy. Gas breaks down over time, the longer it sits in the station's tanks the worse it will be. A station with higher traffic, gets shipments more frequently and in my experience will be better gas. Though stations like Shell and Chevron use additives to aid in combustion and clean the inside of the engine, its all in all the same gas before hand.

So for me its,
1. Traffic of station
2. price for a gallon
3. brand name

Re: Best gas to use...??

When I'm on the road I just stick with the big companies. Aka Shell, Chevron, BP(although living on the N Florida coast I'm a bit biased against BP and wont buy gas from em for now)ummmm I cant think of any others off of the top of my head. The only "mainstream" that I stay away from are Tom Thumb citgo stations. I've had 2 friends get bad gas from them and every time I get gas there my mpgs plummet and the lude runs like it hates me.

Re: Best gas to use...??

Exactly. What you should use is anything without ethanol if you can find it and don't listen to all these guys when they say use 91. Try your best to find 93. I live in central FL and I"ve never heard of 91 and my local walmart has a premium mixture that can go with their gas that makes it 95 but you'll be paying an arm and a leg for it. In case anyone asks, this mixture isn't something off the shelf, when you pay for your gas there is the option to get a mixture that goes in while you pump that I've noticed really does the job and it's good for cleaning. Other than that I only use shell, chevron, or texaco (same as chevron). Safe travels dude. Give yourself and oil change before making a long trip like that.

91 is premium in kansas, there is NO 93 octane. Some states just don't have higher octane gases. It probably has something to do with temps/elevation.

We have 87, 89, 91 octane in Kansas.

Most octane booster is loaded with isopropyl alcohol or methanol, which is exactly what we're trying to avoid by filling up at a station that offers ethanol free fuel.

Hess if you have one, can get toys with fill-up, lol. NEVER BP. If I carry the money, Mobil, Gulf or Texaco. Gulf and Tex seem to leave ethanol out of the equation. NY might've made ethanol a requirement though.

Give yourself and oil change before making a long trip like that.

thanks but i did i keep close attention to my oil.. i made it tho
