transmission question

i have a 93 automatic lude and today i was driving in d4 and when i stopped at a red light everything was fine until i pulled off. my car was seemed like it was in second gear. so basically what i what im trying to say is my car seems like it wont fully down shift to 1st gear. so when it does this i manually shift the selector to first and it works fine and around 3k rpm i shift the selector manually through the gears.
