Where do I even start?

Well, I know kind of where to start.

We just bought a 92 Prelude, or more like a shell of a 92 prelude and a ass load of parts.

It seems to still have the stock 5 speed installed.

The motor is toast but not seized. It was hit with some juice from what it looks like, 2 of the pistons look a little toasted.

It had a rebuild head mounted but, everything around the head is in pieces.

The harness looks partially ****ed, some junk was just plugged into random connectors.

This is just a extreme budget build. It theory I want to rebuild the long block then put all the stuff back on then just drive it.

The 5 speed seems solid, but my biggest concern is pile of wires that was supposed to be the harness.

I tried to look at the online manual but it just keeps timing out.

Any help would be great, I build almost a half dozen motors but never a Honda. And now I don't have a guide to go by since I did not take this beast apart.

Currently I am just dismantling the short block and cleaning down the engine bay.

I will also post some pics up later. This poor car had a long bad life.

P.S. I am in Arizona, if you have any parts for sale I could use or want to give a helping hand feel free to IM me.

I hope so, I just don't have anything to follow. This poor car was molested, and I don't have funds for a fresh pull out.

Re: Where do I even start?

Cool, that will help a lot.

As far as pulling the motor. I see it being the best out the bottom. I don't want the tranny out. But, I don't think I have a choice.

Suggestions?

I know you all have loads of experience in this. I just need some extra pointers.

Re: Where do I even start?

Here are some pics of what I got so far. It is rough. But, that's what kind of makes it fun.

People say it's junk, I say it's got potential:)

Re: Where do I even start?

def take the block/tranny combo out the top, together. as long as you have a cherry picker that is.

i guarantee you the two axle nuts, two lower ball joints, and 4 motor mount bolts will be a thousand times easier than doing all the block/tranny bolts, separating the two, than finagling the block outta the bay with the tranny still in the way.

I believe you

Out the top it will go as soon as I get my cherry picker here.

How much do you think a overhaul on this beast will cost?

The harness looks intact and decent, AC compressor is decent looking and semi recently remaned. The head I got it with is a reman that has never been ran.

I just think the pistons are cooked but it does turn freely. There is very light scoring on 2 of the bores.

I am pretty sure the landings are not intact,

Re: Where do I even start?

Easiest way to pull a motor in my experience is from the top. Id like to try out the bottom some day just to do it, but since i own a cherry picker ive never needed to.

Also, OP, do you really want to make your Prelude look like chevys most effeminate camaro? Kind of a weird thing to aspire for IMO. How about you make it look like a Honda Prelude

Re: Where do I even start?

I know you said you just want a daily driver, but as long as its down like it is, you might as well send the parts over to a machine shop and get checked and port - polished etc etc. It'll save you in the long run. I wish I had the time to do it, but I will when I get my dodge up and running again! Best of luck!

I'm considering a full swap now. We pulled the motor and trans. The bottom of the trans housing is cracked. . .

Re: Where do I even start?

Well, it's been about a week. The motor is out, I found most of the pieces I needed for the interior and a new sun roof. This one is not rusted to sheet.

Starting to look like a car a bit.

Ran power to the fuse box, and Holly crap it all works. Sun roof opens, windows roll up and down and all the lights work as they should.

Re: Where do I even start?

Back at it again today. . . Found a trans at a bone yard today for 267 Bucks out the door. They said it has 100k, yeah sure. . . . Looked clean though.

Took it home and went crazy on this thing with some simple green. Ran it straight out of a pressure sprayer.

Totally took down the block to bare. The bearing looked rough. She is off to the machine shop tomorrow for cleaning and honing. Might as well build it right, not too many Honda motors out here in AZ at all. With decent miles or a decent price anyways.

Re: Where do I even start?

This is what I got so far. Sorted through the parts. Most parts were crap. The motor was junked, all but the cylinder head.

All clutch components were like new.
::
Saved both fans, SchlepBoy's intake, injectors, OBD1 internal coil dizzy and a few sensors.

Ordered a Jap DOHC f22a.

Rewrapped the harness, all connectors looked real good.

Ordered a bunch of new stuff, a aluminum single core radiator, got new radiator hoses, ordered the cheapest stainless header off eGay, got the last 2 pieces I needed for the interior, ordered some fresh motor mounts.

Checked the suspension, all trash. Rack looks beat, ball joints are barely in their sockets, struts are near rusted through and all bushings are hard as a rock.

Another day, more stuff.

Got the motor mounts, header and aluminum radiator. The radiator looks real decent, but the mounts for the fans are in different spots then the original.

Still moving along. Got a JDM f22b, and went at it. Cleaned it, painted a bunch of parts one by one and swapped over a couple parts. Seeing a few issues so far. I really don't how the distributor settup will go at all.

Well, today I got into the dizzy. It's just different. It will be a OBD1 when I am done, kinda.

The guts look all the same inside the distributor with the exception of the igniter. The igniter seems to have a different part number, it's the same as a 91 Accord. Which I find a bit odd. But, I will try to leave it as is. It is a internal coil distributor so I will try to jump the coil plug.

Also the housing bolt pattern is completely different then the others I have. So, I will try it out and see what happens. It looks pretty solid and it should work, but no promises here.

Re: Where do I even start?

Here is today's update. Trotting along, started to Peel the tint. This crap seems to have 2 lairs. Yay, double the fun.

Here is all the distributors, I have. We shall see how this works.

And the shell as it is now.

I really don't like this crap. This is some strange looking oil. Smells weird and seems not to be very oily at all. No metal though.
