Compression Test Results

I did a compression test today and got these numbers from left to right:

190/215/220/220

Can anyone help identify what might be causing the lower compression in the far left cylinder? That plug also seems to be a bit burnt as compared to the rest.

I know these numbers aren't terribly bad, but I would like to fix this before it becomes bad.

Thanks guys.

EDIT: h23a1 with around 170k miles

Re: Compression Test Results

May be the rings in the cylinder are just starting to barely leak. I do notice there is always one cylinder thats just a bit lower than the rest. Could be the oil ring is seizing up a bit and allowing a small amount of oil to enter the cylinder. Or maybe the top 2 rings shifted a smidge and is drop the reading. Just throwing things out there. But 190 is no big deal, im sure thats operating range.

Re: Compression Test Results

a leakdown test will tell you exactly where you're losing compression

Re: Compression Test Results

Is it bad enough that I should worry and do a leak down?

Re: Compression Test Results

Naw man. They say on a healthy motor, all cylinders will test within 5-10% of each other. Your one cylinder is a little outside of that range but honestly man I wouldn't worry about it at all.

Re: Compression Test Results

That's what I figured. I will probably do a leakdown anyways because my car is my baby, lol. I'm kinda new/learning, so how do I put that piston at TDC? Crankshaft?

Re: Compression Test Results

its gonna involve a socket to go on the bolt and a ratchet that u can get good leverage with to turn the engine. and your gonna want to remove the spark plug and either stick your finger in there (to feel the air). or a screw driver method but i don't know how u can tell if that's the compression stroke or exhaust stroke. its a lot easier that what it sounds but seeing how our engines are mounted and how little room there is u may need someone to help u who isn't scarred to stick their finger in there or is strong enough to turn the ratchet
