a/c compressor help!

i recently bough a 94 si. the a/c wasnt wokring so i check and saw there was no belt on the a/c compressor and it was bypassed. I dont know the reason for doing this unless the compressor is shot.

Is there a way to check to see if the compressor is good with no belt on the pulley? So i dont waste time and money putting on a belt only to find out the compressor doesnt work

Any help would be appreciated, thank you!

Re: a/c compressor help!

try spinning the pulley to see if the clutch in the compressor is ceased up.

Re: a/c compressor help!

thew previous owner probably did this just to free up some resistance on the motor. my bet is that your a/c compressor is fine, they just wanted to be JDM

Re: a/c compressor help!

power the compressor by turning the ac on at the climate control, then try spinning the pully. sometimes they'll spin freely until you put power to them.
