Rumor about frm sleeves

I heard a rumor about a guy making big power with stock sleeves, forged bottom end and turbo without problems. Anybody know anything about this?

Re: Rumor about frm sleeves

from what i gather they are really strong sleeves, just not too good and handling boost, well high boost anyway. and the fact that it is high compression, which is really all in the tune. another thing is that there are not too many options for low compression pistons that will not tear up the FRM lining.

Re: Rumor about frm sleeves

From my understanding I should be able to get 4-500hp reliably out of the frm sleeves if not a bit more. Can anybody confirm this? that's my goal out of my upcoming engine build

Re: Rumor about frm sleeves

if your planning on making that kind of power, you obviously have a tuner in mind. so with that being said, talk to him/her and see what experience they have with the h22 (not any other engine) and go from there.
but from what i have read and i have had a few friends with boosted h's, your not goin to touch that without a sleeve job.

Re: Rumor about frm sleeves

The problem with FRM is it doesn't work with forged pistons. And there aren't any low compression cast pistons available

Re: Rumor about frm sleeves

Look into mahle gold series pistons. They are %100 compatible with FRM and they come in low and hi compression. FRM is stronger then iron however due to the fact that the frm sleeves do not work with most pistons more ppl sleeve over run the stock block. Also if u wanna see power like that (which is possible given the right amount research/planning) u will def want to get a fresh hone on the cylinders. TBCH either way will cost u the same amount giver or take a bit if done correctly. Non FRM pistons are cheaper but u then have to pay for sleeves/sleeving, where as the FRM pistons are more expensive and while they do not require cylinder rehoning, for best results it comes highly reccomended. Hope this helps for u

Re: Rumor about frm sleeves

Import Performance Parts has a kit I'm going with. Mahle gold series pistons, gaskets, bearings, and Cometic head gasket all for $899. You can also add rods and a crank. The thing with FRM is that the cylinder actually expands as it heats up and Mahle is one of a few companies that offers a piston design that is compatible with the factory block.

Re: Rumor about frm sleeves

Ive heard mixed reviews on mahle pistons. They come with a coating on them and one thing ive heard is that the coating wears off after a while. Also, the problem with h22's isnt the frm sleeves, its the ring lands. H22's have weak ringlands.

If your seriously wanting to get that kinda power, sleeve it. It will be a whole lot more reliable. Also, would this be your daily driver?

Re: Rumor about frm sleeves

BlackBB6 is correct in what he said. I will be sleeving my block when I do my build. I'm also going to be running nitrous so thats something that swayed my opinion. 9 out of 10 major H builds have sleeved blocks.

Re: Rumor about frm sleeves

Yeah, this will be my little summer whip for the most part. Driven about 120mi/day, 5-6 days a week for about 7 months out of the year. I think after hearing the frm sleeves are actually stronger than iron, I'm gonna push the envelope and just go for it. I know people sleeve they're blocks for a reason, but if frm really is stronger, why not try it?

I'm not disagreeing with you, its just nobody knows the limitations. Every has just sleeved it and called it a day. I'm willing to take one for the team to get some hard truth.
