5 spd sway...?

My auto is starting to shift hard. It revs somewhat high/long before switching gears and when it does I can really feel the jerk on the tranny /:

Do you guys think its worth it to do a 5 spd swap?

Re: 5 spd sway...?

I too have been thinking of doing this. I dont have any problems with my transmission, but I miss having a 5 speed. A list of things that would be needed are,

Transmission
Clutch disk
Flywheel
Pressure plate
Pilot bearing
Throwout bearing
Shifter
Clutch cylinder
Clutch lines
Slave cylinder
[EDIT] I forgot about all the shifter cables.

I have done a little research about this, and what I remember on my moms focus when her clutch went out. Would anyone doing this need a 5speed ECU, and 5 speed starter? Is your motor a f22a1, H22, or H23?

Re: 5 spd sway...?

Don't take this the wrong way, but you're better off selling your car and getting a 5 speed instead of doing the swap. You're looking at at least 2.5-3k to complete the swap, might as well save that money for something else. Plus, if you're patient you should be able to find a 5 speed for about the same price you sell your car for.

Re: 5 spd sway...?

weird. I've read on places like HT (i think) that they cost around 500-800 if you buy all the parts yourself...?
excluding the tranny of course

I agree if you went to a pick-a-part or some place of that nature it should be relatively inexpensive provided you did the labour yourself. A bonus of keeping your current car is you "know what you have and what prelude "problems" have already been fixed. With a buying a different one you would be starting from scratch.

Re: 5 spd sway...?

yeah man, i sold one of my ludes for 800 and it had everything you would need for the swap, so doing it for a pretty good price is possible. it does take some know how tho. just PLEASE dont dive into something that is only going to put you 4985982745983 steps behind.

Re: 5 spd sway...?

Also I would suggest getting a remanufactured tranny rather than a used

I went to gearheadtrans.com and they have remanufactured tranny with a 2 year/unlimited mileage warranty i got a quote for my 99 base and they told me $1300 (I believe shipping was included). I don't know if there are more sites like this one it took me awhile to find this one.

A used is cheaper but you don't always know what your getting
