exhaust manifold?

I've searched for threads on painting my exhaust manifold and wasn't able to find anything. Would anyone be able to maybe post a link on how to remove it please? I assume I would go about painting it just like I would my valve covers(sand it, prime it, hi temp paint?) I'm doing my vc electric blue, do you think doing the manifold the same color would be too much?

Re: exhaust manifold?

well theres 3 bolts that conect it to the down pipe and then theres 8 or somthing around there that bolt it to the cylinder head....as for painting it..i think that be a lil to much ahah and chances are the paint will just burn off cas that puppy gets HOT!

And this may be a dumb question, but what is the difference between exhaust headers and an exhaust manifold? What would headers offer and could I paint those? I have an automatic so I'm just focusing on looks until I can get a 5th gen manual.

Re: exhaust manifold?

manifold = cast
header = pipes
I would recommend just painting the heat shield on the manifold and leave the manifold itself raw.

Re: exhaust manifold?

The exhaust manifold? As in your headers? Paint them? Youre out of your mind. I have stainless steel headers I picked up off of ebay, the 4-2-1 system, that cost me $80. The heat that those things absorb would decimate even a high heat paint. When I'm running the car they glow red hot. I mean GLOW.
Do yourself a favor, dont repaint ANYTHING on the car. Either buy new parts or wrap interior stuff in carbon fiber cloth from Euro-dyne, add new colored vacuum hoses, wraps, plug wires, distributor cap, intake and filter etc etc.
If you do things on your car the cheap way, it looks cheap and wont look nice at all.

Re: exhaust manifold?

Lowes sells a High Heat paint for grills. Thats about the only thing you can use. My friend who races dirt track recommended it to me.

Just like you after a year reported on this thread, the exact same thing happened to the exhaust manifold on my Odessey and that's even worse because it has the integrated catcon.At that time, I replaced the exhaust manifold gasket and the down pipe o-ring gaskets to my dismay the leak was still there. It actually took place at 16k miles which usually happens to other hond drivers out there. Over the past few weeks the leak became so bad (really getting into the passenger compartment) that I decided that the manifold must have cracked.

Re: exhaust manifold?

Stock exhaust header can be painted with a high temp exhaust paint, lasts around one year before you can touch it up to restore the color:

Can also paint the heat shield:

But FTW, heat wrap it.lol
