Re: Compression test on a G23

Leakdown test can pinpoint whether its the piston rings, intake/exhaust valve seals, or headgasket.

Also it smokes after going into the 4-5rpm ranging while shifting gears. After I shift and drive no more smoke.

Re: Compression test on a G23

Is this ur DD? If so pull that motor. I speak from experience. I had the g22. Its a major PITA bc theres so many dif parts in it. Reliability is def an issue.

Re: Compression test on a G23

sounds like the rings went bad, pour a top of oil in each cylinder at a time then see what your reading looks like then but its most likely your rings...

Re: Compression test on a G23

its white smoke.

Diamond, I'm not disagreeing with you but there isn't really that many parts for the g23 conversion. I seen that you did the G22 conversion. All the parts for me is just the head, crankshaft cog, and I think I did the h23 water pump, not to sure.

Cgbuter1 I was going to try that and I seen on a post which I kinda agree with, but let me know what you guys think on this too, but that if you put oil to any cylinder that it would raise the compression.

Re: Compression test on a G23

If the piston rings are indeed going bad, pouring a cap full of oil into each cylinder should help better seal the rings against the wall, which would raise the compression in that cylinder. If it doesn't raise then I wouldn't worry about the rings, and look else where.

Re: Compression test on a G23

white smoke = coolant burning and going out the exhaust = head gasket leak
blue smoke = oil burning
black smoke = gas (running rich)
