converting h23a to v-tec vs. h22 swap

so i just picked up a 92 prelude that has some mods and from doing a little bit of research trying to decide which direction to go. the car has things like a stage2 clutch and an h23 with stage 2 cams, a reworked head(after guy bent all the valves) and some other goodies. but the the guy didnt' get everything put back together so now the cams have some rust and pitting on them and one of the cam gears is missing. and i guess there has been some upgrades to the motor as far as higher compression pistons and stuff. since i have to buy new cams and this motor is a non vtec, would it be a better route to just buy a jdm h22vtec and do a swap or get new cams and convert the h23 to vtec? the crappy thing is i dont know what all exactly was done to this motor, like compression ratio, or if something else got banged up when they over revved it. in the end im looking for a lot of power and plan to put a turbo on it. are h22 parts cheaper and easier to find? also if i do the swap can i use the same tranny or do i need to get a matching tranny as well. thanks for any help

I dont think you can just install new VTEC cams. You need the solenoid, and the engine block has to have the oil passages to power them. The head would have to be replaced with a VTEC head as well. I think if you want VTEC, get the H22A swap, or H23A VTEC swap. You dont want high compression if your going to go turbo, and if your going turbo you want stronger rods.
