Ebay turbo's?

Every year or so a new company pops up on ebay, selling turbo kits from 3rd world countries for unbeatable prices. I've heard some good, and bad things about these, but they all seem to vary between years, and a lot of the threads are older (2004-2006).

Does anyone know who really manufactures this turbo kit? Company names come and go, but actual producers usually stay.

Just trying to see if this is an ok buy, or complete ****.

1992-1996 Honda Street Drag Vtec Turbo Kit Prelude H22 - eBay (item 270537831954 end time Mar-22-11 18:55:32 PDT)

Seems to have everything in it, even an electronic timer for heat readings, which I've read that other kits dont include, and they end up burning out the turbo.

My engine is has stock internals, I'll probably change out the rings for that's the only real weak point in the jdm h22a engine, and I'll only go 7-8 psi max, lower for most driving.

Re: Ebay turbo's?

they are all no names. if you dont have the money to buy a whole kit at once its better to get one thing at a time and piece together a good turbo set up

Re: Ebay turbo's?

The big companies, like turbonetics, garrett..etc, they usually sell just the turbo. I'm still in a novice stage, so I'm not sure exactly all of the components I need. Aside from the obvious intercool, wastegate, manifold...etc, what else is there? Any threads list in detail what goes into a turbo kit? And what brands are the best, I'd imagine a mixture set-up would be the best, kinda of like how I did with my exhaust, but I wouldn't know where to start.

I'm not running into this, but after seeing all the stock internal boosted integra's last night, it's pushing me to get mine on its way. So I've got time, just want to do it right.

Re: Ebay turbo's?

just a heads up be ready to go balls deep into spending money lol just getting parts ready is only half the battle. just getting a car turned is going to cost as much as the turbo. you should get the block built before even thinking about boosting it doesnt matter how much psi your running

start with getting info from here

Re: Ebay turbo's?

I got a friend who's pushing almost 500hp out of a B16 with an eBay turbo. He's destroyed axles and his tranny just died but the turbo is still running good.

Re: Ebay turbo's?

One thing useful with ebay turbo kits is the parts list.. you will need 95% of what they have listed and that can help start you in the right direction for a parts list.

I am not saying buy the turbo kit (I wouldn't) but use it as a basic list that you can build off of.

Re: Ebay turbo's?

some people just buy the kit for the parts and use a different turbo. im sure the turbo they give you is only worth like $50

Re: Ebay turbo's?

I have had a few friends run with eBay turbos and they are not bad. One was an Rex k20 another was a crx with a d15 and another with an ls. People say don't get them because of the price but as far as I can tell they are just fine if your not wanting to push it to the Max. Just be sure to get an ecu and have it tuned. If I remember right you have a pherable ecu, so I would just hit them up and have a base map tune for your h22 with Turbo. Your right about the rings. Make sure you have good compression across the board. You SHOULD be OK, but remember your doing this at your own risk. A few helpful things you might want to get is injectors and fuel pump.
