transmission kick?!?!?!

My 96 SI h23 auto trans is kicking pretty bad when it goes to shift gears, the fluid is a little old i could change it out but i know it will only help the problem a little bit but not solve the issue, my dad seems to think its a shift kit and i know nothing about auto transmissions and i didn't even know if our cars had a shift kit for them is this possible? i was also thinking it could be the "shift solenoid" could anybody shine some light on this?

Re: transmission kick?!?!?!

i would just use this as an excuse to do a 5spd swap.

Re: transmission kick?!?!?!

well the auto trans for these cars sucks. yeah it could be a solenoid, try taking off the connections on the outside of your tranny and cleaning them out with some electronic connector cleaner, CRC makes a good cleaner for that. then make sure that your connections are good and tight when you go back to connect them and see if that makes a difference. truth is its harder to maintain these trannys because the filter is internal and changing the fluid out only helps for a little while but that same crap that is stuck in your filter will be right back out floating around in your tranny unless you take the tranny out and put in a new filter. don't wait too long to do something about it tho, the longer it does those hard shifts the fewer the miles that tranny has left in it.

Re: transmission kick?!?!?!

yeah i know all of that i also know the only way to clean that filter is to do a fluid change drive it for a day do another fluid change drive it another day and then one last change which is ridiculous. but the previous owner said a tech at the dealership told him the shift solenoids go out over time and thats what causes the harder shifting among other problems, im just curious as to anyone having this problem and fixing it without having to replace or rebuild the trans. thanks for your input though ill clean those connectors tomorrow
