Icon9 PLZ Help Lord PLZ help lol!!!

so this is my first post on the forum.. and regretfully its not so good of a welcome to my fellow prelude owners. im not really a car tech guy but im smart enough to ask the people who are and hopefully someone on here can help me out ill try to be as detailed as possible so one of you great minded car guys can lead me in the right direction!! I hav a 95 h23 lude manual trans...gauges have been flickering.. and sometimes my car wont start in conjunction with the flickering issue.. just today my gauge lights went out and the car wouldn't initially start.. only when give it gas as im turning the motor over does the car start.. then engine sputters gauges flicker rev meter needle bounces and eventually car works.. then i get on the interstate gauges flickering intermittently only for the gauges to completely black out and my car shut off on me!!!luckily after a few min. i was able to start the car as i did previously and made it back home. ive never had any major issues with my car this is the first time ive ever had any problems in my 7yrs owning it. so i pray someone knows what the deuce is going on!! thanks in advance!!

Re: PLZ Help Lord PLZ help lol!!!

That flickering could be anything ....

Your ignition could be going bad
Or a fuel related problem...

Re: PLZ Help Lord PLZ help lol!!!

Gettin a brand new battery would help... Check all your fuses with testlight, make sure they work and the correct fuse is in the right spot... Then you can look around the engine bay for bad connected wires.. even under the dash. In my car i found wires that wasnt even connected, they was just loose chilling around lol.. remove those

Re: PLZ Help Lord PLZ help lol!!!

Yea could be your battery or alternator gone bad. U can get both tested at advance auto or auto zone for free and they can hook u up. Most def sounds like ur alternator tho.

i had the same problem with my 98 sh.. it was a pain! being stopped on the side of the freeway in the California sunshine in the summer time.. no AC. GAHH! me and my step dad swapped out the ignition switch with a new one and it never happened again.

Re: PLZ Help Lord PLZ help lol!!!

x2 on the battery, make sure that the connections on the battery (the terminals) are tight and are free of any corrosion build up and check your power wire to starter as well. ignition switch could also be an issue, but check the more basic things first

Re: PLZ Help Lord PLZ help lol!!!

battery is only a yr old.. i threw in some fuel injection cleaner to see if that would help. my battery connections are good and i have em greased up so no worries about corrosion. ill try goin to auto zone but i still have no clue.. oh abelsgosspeed i think the flickering/dash going off is related because when i try to start the car w/o pressing gas pedal all my gauges go blank and car doesnt start. i dont even get the chimes.. but then again like i said im clueless when it comes to these types of matters

Re: PLZ Help Lord PLZ help lol!!!

Bad alternator would drain the battery even if its only 1yr old....which would mean hard to crank up and the combination of drained battery and bad alternator would cause car gauges to flicker and even shut off on you. but if tha battery is only 1yr old it is prob still in warranty so no worries there. if its not that some1 else gona havta come up with something.

its pretty easy to do i've had to do it before. i'm not sure how far back this goes, but there was a recall on some honda ignition switches because they were going out when people were driving, which is what was happening to me. like i said i'm not sure how far the recall goes back but if I were you I would call your local honda dealer and tell them that you want to see if your car qualifies for the ignition switch recall and if it does then great it'll save you some money. they should be able to tell if it does qualify by you just giving them your VIN. good luck man

Re: PLZ Help Lord PLZ help lol!!!

Check all ur grounds and make sure nothing grounding where it shouldn't. As for the bouncing needle could be a bad VSS. Not sure if that would carry over into ur other issues or not but its a start.

Re: PLZ Help Lord PLZ help lol!!!

The Brown plug on the under Dash fuse box is your ignition Harness.

the Blue plug is for your dash gauges and lights... THIS One is Notorious for coming loose over time.

Pull em and check for Brown or black (carbon) indicating arcing. in none then place em back in the fuse block making sure they 'click' solidly into place.

One other thought... any sign of an aftermarket alarm system? Usually a bad installer will run wires willy-nilly under the dash and / or leave random wires hanging or unwrapped. Also look for sensors, or harness' that look out of place. FYI: Honda loved split loom and black tape back in the 90's.
Get up under your dash with a bright light and see what wires your accelerator pedal pay be pushing, touching, or moving when you press on the gas pedal. I am assuming you own a 92/93 since you are posting in the 4th Gen Forum? this is a cabled accelerator... no electronics between the pedal and intake.
