Oil pan gasket....and yes i searched

I just replaced my oil pan gasket and its leaking worse. I put the dye in and will be checking in the morning, hopefully its not the rear seal. I put sealant on the oil pan side only, is this correct? Whats the correct torque, and what pattern do you guys use when installing. Any and all tips are appreciated

yup you only use the liquid gasket between the pan and gasket.
they're only tightened to 7lb-ft, that's it. if you overtighten the gasket will get crushed and not seal correctly.
i start with the middle two, then work my way outwards in an alternating X direction. the manual goes over the torque sequence.

Re: Oil pan gasket....and yes i searched

It basically sounds like I did everything correct. Thank you for the reply, and I'm now worried (rear main seal )!

Re: Oil pan gasket....and yes i searched

ut oh rear main would suckkkkkkkk.

i would try the oil pan gasket once more, clean as much old oil off the engine/tranny/pan as you can to see if you can spot WHERE its leaking from.
then if its still leaking from between the block/tranny...... rut rohh

Re: Oil pan gasket....and yes i searched

I just put that dye in, warmed up the car and took a look. It appears to be the pan for sure. I'm outta money to buy oil with so its just gonna have to wait. Mind u I just got done rebuilding from a cracked head....... once again I just gotta wait for more money. It looks positive though.

Double check the oil pan bolts. A lot of the time they loosen up after the first heat cycle

Re: Oil pan gasket....and yes i searched

I did no luck. Maybe I didn't clean the bottom of the block off good enough. What should I use to get it completely clean? There isn't any sealant residue there, but there is some kinda glue or something not entirely sure, it looked factory.
