Icon5 ****93' SI H23a a.k.a"The pokestir" ****

I'm not sure if anything is wrong because my car is running fine, but I'm a little unsure of it's performance lately. I've put a tune up on it, and a c.a.i. The plugs/ wires etc. are nothing fancy, and the car is pretty much stock, but the tuneups new. In due time, I plan on installing an entire exhaust system in the future. My lude seems pretty slow, even for stock. When I get on it, you can tell the engine has the power, but it just doesn't want to go, off the line. Hell, yesterday I goosed it at a red light (dead stopped), with a flat bed ford 550 diesel duliey right next to me.....and he beat me, until I got up to around 45-50mph. That's pretty damn pathetic.
My questions are....What would be the areas to check? Is this normal, even for stock? What can I do, to increase my pick up, off the line? Like I said, my engine seems to have the power, but I feel like I'm towing a f@^K%n boat! Could compression be off, timing, a leak somewhere etc.?
Oh, today I got beat by a loaded down work van.
Please help, I'm hoping it's something simple...Doubt it though .
Thanks guys,
-Shadow-

Are you throwing any codes?

How is your idle?
Just go over your tuneup, check the wires and plugs, check the spark plugs to see how rich or lean you are running, a good way to indicate what the deal is?

I've beaten up one of those new SI's, as well as a fairly quick turbo F350

As far as throwing codes, yes I was throwing a code (12) the egr lift sensor.
I cleared/reset the ecu, checked the egr valve, checked hoses, etc. and followed my manuals tests, and everything checked out fine. I've also installed 2 different egr valves that were off vehicles that had less than 55k on them....Still no luck, so I got tired of chasing the fix, and I felt that the car was running fine other than the cel being a visual aggravation and losing minor fuel consumption....So I pulled the bulb. The idle seems fine with the exception of the A.C being on. I have to give it a little more gas than normal, or it'll stall. I've also checked all of the plugs, and they look to be burning fine. The plugs have the tan appeal to them, that they look like when they're burning good. The wires are brand new, but nothing fancy, just the oem replacements.
There is one thing though, when I installed my C.A.I, I forgot to disconnect the battery cable, when I took the oem intake off. As soon as I turned the engine over, it started pulsing like hell, jumping from 700 to 1400 rpm. So I adjusted the main idle screw (Same) on the intake and it smoothed right out to around 900 rpm. I than cleared/reset the ecu. and all was fine. Ever since then the only thing that I've done was re-adjust the screw when the A.C was wide open, to keep me from giving it a little to much gas before I would stall. Could it be possible that my timing may be a little off? Every now and again I get a little whiff that it may be running a little rich...but no visual indication like sutt from the muffler or anything along those lines.
I purchased the vehicle a little under a year ago, from the original owner, with less than 86k on the dash, all maintenance records included, oil changes, cv joints, misc. etc., nothing major with the engine, that I know of.
The cel was on then, but I thought nothing of it since most of my vehicles in the past end up throwing it sooner or later.
It just puzzles the hell out of me. My cousins 3rd generation seems to have much more pick up and go than mine. And I'm not talking about weight wise, it seems like a 15-20 hp increase for bottom line torque.
I'm sorry this is so long, but I wanted to make sure that I've covered everything. The engine is talking the talk, but it's like she's not walking the walk.
Please help me narrow this down.
Thanks a bunch,
-Shadow-

You shouldn't be losing to a pickup truck.

...well, let me take that back. You should try not to lose to a pickup truck.

Try cleaning out your IAC valve(see my sig).
You could be off timed by a hair, but that wouldn't really cause you to stumble...or maybe...

I wasn't trying. lol....Thanks, I'll have to clean it. If anything, it probably needs it anyway.
Thanks again,

Ok....I took the IAC valve off, and it (the screen) was clogged up pretty bad. I cleaned it with carb. cleaner, installed it, and reset the ECU. I turned it over and the sucker revved to around 2k rpm for about a minute, than as it got warmer, and I'm assuming after the ecu made its adjustments, when it got to operating temp. it leveled right out at just a hair below 1k. I than took it for a spin around the block.
I can't tell a huge difference, but it does seem a little more responsive when I'm going into 3rd gear. Is there anything else that I should check, that may be clogged to improve it's sluggish performance off the line? What about the injectors themselves? Something else on the throttle body, maybe?
The guy that I bought it from said, that the car had been sitting for awhile before he decided to sell it.
I've also changed the fuel filter, flushed the radiator, and double checked the correct gap on the plugs.
Thanks again,
-Shadow-

Same post, but on another note:
How about this.
Say any of you have just purchased a 1993 Prelude Si with the H23 16V D.O.H.C. STOCK.You do a complete tune up, plugs wires, oil, fuel filter, O2 sensor, etc. etc.and you are still unsatisfied with it's performance.

What, and where, would be your fist choice to increase hp and over all performance, and to be able to feel that you have accomplished something with a simple, yet, cost efficient mod for your new prelude?

1. Cold/quick air consumption in the intake?

2. New header?

3. By pass cat (depending on local state codes)?

4. Over all exhaust pipe size increase/decrease? And what location?

5. You tell me?

Where should I start?

Thanks man.....
