Help diagnose my "hopefully" new 4th gen

Hey everyone, I went today to look at a 94 SI, I was told it wouldn't idle when it was warm, which sounded simple enough, so we drove 100 miles out there, and I take it for a little drive, it won't idle when it's warm, which is the least of my concerns after inspection, so here is where I need your help

The temp gauge was showing normal temp, however, it was blowing water back through the rad. into the reservoir, which made me think bad head gasket or cracked head...however, this guy, who, nicely...wasn't someone I would have working on a car of mine, said that he had changed the head gasket, and taken the front of the motor down to check the water pump, so I'm wondering if something got put back together wrong or what...

So, to review the symptoms

1. Will not idle when warm, evens out above 1500rpm
2. Blows coolant into the reservoir when gauge reads normal
3.very very low on power, much less power than my (mourn) trusty f22 car used to have

Let me know what you think!! I've been trying to get back into the prelude world.

Thanks,
Marshall H.

I won't beat the deal, I'm just wondering if something simple could be causing these symptoms

Re: Help diagnose my "hopefully" new 4th gen

could be head gasket ?? as one of the problems thatd eat your coolant, you can do a compression test, thatll tell you if that needs to be replaced. other than that try sounds like the idoling could have to do with the tranny.. i would take it somewhere and get a list of what it needs..

I agree, also sounds like this guy can't walk away from the deal.

I know it may seem like a good deal because it is really cheap but in reality it is a bad deal and you would rather get a little more expensive one that is in good condition.

Also this guy could have replaced the headgasket but the head and block may have needed to be resurfaced and he didn't do that, could have over tightened the headbolts or not tightened them enough. If he is someone who you don't think should be working on a car but did then why would you want to buy that car?

Oh, and turbochargers are air cooled, so you don't need to fool with that pesky oil line that may or may not come with your kit.

Good luck!

He's asking a grand, good body, really good interior, new tires, pretty good suspension components from what I inspected and from the short drive I took it on.

New development, a friend of mine wrecked his 5th gen a while back and priced me his H22a4, motor mounts, engine harness, and computer for 550, so I've been readin up on the h22a4 swap into a 4th gen

Re: Help diagnose my "hopefully" new 4th gen

I was gonna suggest that =P i would def go for it. a grand is not bad. most 4th gens that are in good shape are going for atleast 3-4k here where i am at. cheapest i have seen is 1500 and thats because guy brought the car to a shop to rebuild his motor and they didnt warranty it. and it started burning oil. so i didnt get it =P but yeah. thats not a bad deal at all. i am pretty sure its a direct bolt in from what i have read.

1. Don't thread jack. Mods hate that
2. Utilize the search function at the top. This topic has been covered multiple times.
3. I honestly don't know. I drive a 3rd gen.
4. That was a perfect last line. Lol.
