won't start

hi just wondering if anyone can help.

me and a mate just bought a 92 prelude 2.2 vtec and the people we got it from said they took the battery off to charge it and now it won't start.

iv'e checked the distributor and disconnected the battery and reconnected it but it still doesn't start it just keeps turning over.

dose anyone know what might be causing it and what i should try next.

thanks in advance.

Have you pulled a plug wire and checked to see if there is spark? Are you getting fuel? Do you think they could have lied to you and you have a broken timing belt?

Re: won't start

well if the car turns over, your timing belt is probably just fine...otherwise it'd be ugly lol. if you already know that it's not getting spark then that helps. ok, sounds like to me it could be 2 things. the first is that its your distributor, if you've got power to it and its not getting from there to your plugs or wires then thats what i would think. You can check the resistance on the coil to double check. The other is possibly that its the wires/plugs themselves, your distributor can be good and you may still not have spark. So you need to check the condition of your plugs and wires as well. If the plugs are black or oily or smell like gas then that could cause them to not fire. If your wires have places where the insulation has worn off that can cause voltage leak and your plugs won't get enough power. Just check the condition of your plugs and wires and let me know what you find out. Another thing I just thought of, make sure that the plug wires are plugged onto the distributor where they should be, because if they are off then they could be misfiring because they are soaked with gas because the ignition timing would be off.

iv'e only got a low voltage tester so not sure if it works for ht leads but i did check them and there is no resistance and the plugs are dirty.

i don't know where the coil is as i only got it about three days ago lol.
iv'e checked all the earths and i don't know how to properly check the distributor.
