I am starting to modify my car a lil more and was wondering what the torque specs for the header bolts on a 92 lude are

Re: Header Torque specs?

Torque is silly. Not once have I, or anyone I know, concern themselves with torque outside of engine internals. Tight is tight, too tight is too tight. Headers you want tight.

Sorry I can't actual give you an answer.

well then you my friend have been pretty darn lucky lol. I would defiantly concern myself with torque numbers on anything the manual says to. you could end up stripping bolts and lots of other problems....

to op: start with 19 ft-lbs from center and work your way out. then go up to 22-23 ft-lbs and your done.

Use your head, there is tight, and there is OMG I'M PUSHING WITH ALL MY FORCE AHHHHH DONE tight. A couple good yanks, and a bolt is secure. I'm talking about stupid stuff, like bolting the IM, or the TB, or in this case the header.

If I were to touch anything IN the engine, or in the tranny, maybe even the bolts from the tranny to the block, I'd look up some torque numbers.

Of course you can wear the gloves and do it strictly by the book too.

My pride died a long time ago. -.-;

For the record, I broke a bolt off in my timing belt tensioner because I overtighened it.

Re: Header Torque specs?

yeah lol, well thats all i was saying is to use specs because some of us learn the hard way and would be better to go by factory specs to prevent this type of thing from happening. not all of us have the same know how when it comes to cars and some are noobs and just dont know the do's and dont's yet.

Re: Header Torque specs?

i have seen good rating for both sets of headers, i like megan racing though idk why but i do, and download the online manuel every single torque spec is there, I hate when i buy a used car and i go to take of a really important bolt and its stripped from the previous owner. Thats ****ty, but i have messed up a few times my self being stupid and being like hmm i think i can tighten this one more time and it will be fine.
