Icon13 My prelude sucks...

recently i changed heads due to a crack i found it the old one. i put a stock h23 head on a stock h23. we changed the thermostat and water pump while it was apart.

for the first week of driving it, it ran pretty cold. it would get to temp, then the bar would drop back to half temp. but now whenever im going down a hill or coasting, it over-heats untill i put my foot on the gas or until the car sits level. its not low on fluid because its actually spraying out of the over flow box...

this car is nothing but problems

i fuvking hate my honda

Re: My prelude sucks...

Either;

1) Your radiator is shot and is gunking up the system and it can't flow properly.
2) You installed the thermostat wrong.
3) Your car is operating at the correct temp, but your sensors are wacked so it's telling you different.

Re: My prelude sucks...

Had the same problem, had to accelerate for it not to overheat, turned ou to be #1 on Terror's list. My radiator cap blew, had to replace the top part and had to do a radiator flush..

Re: My prelude sucks...

i went out this morning and check the oil and looked in the rad. the oil was clean but it took about a half gallon to fill the radiator. now that i know im leaking fluid i have to find out where. the heat doesnt work and it has a hint of anti-freeze smell in it. could it be that rather than the rad. being gunked up, that the heater core is filled with crap? or even leaking?

Re: My prelude sucks...

A: how old is your water pump...not working at idle, but when rev'd ok...hmmm
B: no heat...antifreeze smell inside? pull back your carpet on the passenger side and see if its damp. if so, you sir need a new heater core

I would do those in reverse order than listed above...but you get the idea

Re: My prelude sucks...

the water pump is brandy new. not even 500 miles on it. new outta the box when i put it in.

B is the next thing ill check. when we looked for the ecu, we found that the carpet was wet, but we just blamed it on people gettin in without kickin the snow off their feet.

maybe there is a problem with the heater core. ill have to check it before i put it back on the road

Re: My prelude sucks...

Did you check to make sure the block and replacement head were flat? Any oil or coolant mixing anywhere?

Re: My prelude sucks...

oil checked out clean. but i still need to flush the radiator out. it still has bits of oil in it from the crack in the old heads water jacket. im tryin to break it loose from the block, but i need to run hot water through it while its running. and my mom wont let me hook the hose up to the hot water heater...

i dont like having my sulfer nasty ass water in there anyway.
