ECU tuning & Idle question

I have gone through 2 more IACV's from accord's at the junk yard, all fairly old 93-95. The idle problem, which will fluctuate only when the engine is at a high temp, for some reason it will always do it by the time I reach my street, you could almost set your watch by it.

Anyway, I don't know what the chances could be that mine **** the bed, the 1st used one I had work for about a week, then it started messing up, and now the 2nd one I picked up is doing the same thing, about 5 days later.

It's only when the car is at temp for the assumption that the Ohms in the sensor will rise with heat, sitting at 11.7 cold and 13+ when hot.

Half of my assumption is that these are all duds, and I might just have to break down and throw down $200 for a brand new one. But with them all working for only 5-7 days and messing up again, could the ECU have anything to do with this? I'm convinced they do go bad, in my 93 accord my auto tranny ecu went bad, first only sticking in 3rd once in a while, to constant. I know the chances are slim, but they are there.

It so happens that my ECU is stock, and the 120 cut off is starting to bother me. I always wanted to get a tune, but I don't want to spend 500 dollars for hondata s3000 (or w/e it is), plus 200 for a new ECU. Of course I like to do things the best way possible, so that was my initial plan, big money. I know of cheaper routs, can you guys enlighten me? To properly tune an ecu you want the car on a dyno, but thats not cheap, so I understand there are typical base maps that people make, sort of "universal." What ECU should I go with, I know some dont use IAB and the knock, others do, and what programs should I look into, where to gets maps..etc. Or if anyone has someone I can send a fresh ECU out to, I'd be more then willing to pay them for a simple upgraded tune.

Thanks

Re: ECU tuning & Idle question

terror, it all depends on what type of set up you are running. i did a h22 and accord 5speed swap on my 4th gen. i went with this company for my ecu. have been recommened by many, and so far im happy. also they can lay down a base map for you based on your mods. i have been using it since aug and havent gotten a tune yet, but my set up isnt much.

Re: ECU tuning & Idle question

I did some research and actually decided on them haha. I can give them my exact bolt on mods and they'll give me a map best suited, then I can always change it later.

My new question is, 2 step launch control. They offer it free, and for the means of being able to have fun with it, and launch without spinning out, I'd like to try it. What confuses me is how it works without a switch, or do you NEED a switch? The in-car video's I've seen all had switch's, but they were all built as well. How would you go about putting in a switch for it? And what would be a good rpm launch? I'm thinking 3.2k-3.5k?

I'll be doing googleing about it in the next few days, always good to get 1st hand info on it though.

Re: ECU tuning & Idle question

I asked the company and they told me it's set to speed. IE: 0 mph = 2 step active.

I'm not so sure about this now lol. Though I can't think of a reason I'd need to rev over 3.5k rpm when at a stand still. =/

Does anyone on here have 2 step? Like / dislike?

Re: ECU tuning & Idle question

My friend has it in his Integra. I don't like it really, I like having control of what engine speed I launch the car at. I guess if I ever develop MS and can't keep the pedal steady, it will be a good thing.

Re: ECU tuning & Idle question

I'm having second thoughts, or I'm doing this wrong. Does the 2 step act in the same way of that if you held the rpms at a certain point and dropped the clutch?

4k was crazy, swaying the car, 3k I was still spinning. Stupid high jdm torque and m2b4 tranny. >(; Is setting it any lower then 3k even worth getting? I dont want it TOO low.
