re doing the whole electronics in my baby

so i been having electrical difficulties and i been meaning to re do the entire wireing. however, i'm a complite amateur with cars, i been reading the manual thought, so i've been learing a lot of things. however, there are some cables, procedures, and compatabilities the guide doesn't mention.

my car is a '92 SI with 4ws, so i'm not complitely sure, on how different my wiring/electrical system is from a regular lude so i wanted to know...

- what would the main differences be?
- like, could i just but the wires from a regular 4th gen and just reuse some of the components for the 4ws?
-also, is there a difference how the wires were done in years 92 to 96 or?
-would you recommend doing something like this? specially to a complete noob like me? or is it more complicated than it seems?
- also, i have the speedometer for a 95 lude and it looks way better than the 92 speedometer that i have. since the 95 speedometer cannot be put into a 92 because of the way the wiring is set up i thought tha maybe if i change the entire wiring from my 92 to a 95 wiring (since i'm changing my cables anyway) would be a good idea? possible?

i'm also asking this because i'm about to purchase an SI shell '96 for about $600 the color is not the same but who cares, i'm only interested in the interior and obviously, the electronics. so should i buy it? or would this be a complitely waste of money?

i know im asking too much and i might sound dumb but i'm just trying to do the right things the right way. thank you for your help iln advance. hope to hear from you guys soon.

if you admit to being an amateur, then wiring shouldnt be on your list do to IMO.

it can be very tricky and one minor slip up can cause everything to not work.

i am not doubting you at all, just trying to let you know the risks of a job this major.

as for the shell, get it lol

you know i'm getting the shell. i'm just hoping i can resale it once i'm done with it ;-)

and as far as the wires, i'm just going to replacing everything wire by wire. however i'm scared i'll mess it up. but what other option do i have right?

Re: re doing the whole electronics in my baby

well you could just put your motor in the shell your getting.

and i just realized that the shell is 96 so it will be obd2 and probably not going to work for what you want, plus your 4ws. its a huge job man.

here is an option you might not have thought about,
-Get the shell, you said it has nice interior right? good body? and sell your car and put a motor in your new shell. if title is an issue then switch vin numbers. 4ws IMO is over rated.

Re: re doing the whole electronics in my baby

Why exactly do you want to "redo" your wiring should be the question that is asked first....

because almost everything is malfunctioning.

like, the locks only work only work when they want.
my dash doeesn't turn on sometimes, or it does but lights up really slow.
my 4ws light is on, but when i park the car with the wheel all the way to the right, it turns off and the 4 wheels rotate,
umm? my cigarrette lighter doesn't work,
i have my ABS light on.
the stero cable that gives the constant current doesn't work, so i have a cable from the fuse box connected to the stereo so it works.
a bit more electrical issues, but those are the first that came to mind.

Re: re doing the whole electronics in my baby

Unless someone has actually went in and messed with your wiring before or you have some critters eating up your wires... it is very unlikely that any of that is a wiring issue.

You need to get the codes pulled that are causing the 4ws light to be on and the abs light to be on.

the thing is that i've looked and it does seem like the prenvious owner did mess with the wires because i've noteced some cables have been spliced. also, i did more research and i found out my car had been victim of a flood about 3/4 years ago, and i know that usually messes up the electronics in a car.

exactly where can i do this? i've gone to 3 diff mechanics and so far they've told me they can't do it on my car cuz my car is a 92 and their computers (bs.bs.bs.bs.bs something about the price, bs.bs.bs.bs.bs something about the software, bs.bs.bs.bs. and something about the year of my car) won't be compatible.

Re: re doing the whole electronics in my baby

Take it to a local Honda dealership. If they say they cant pull the codes then they are just lying.

If it is a flood car then yea it is probably fukced...

Re: re doing the whole electronics in my baby

you can get codes pulled at autozone and stuff too for free I do it all the time. and ya sorry to hear its a flood victim.. one of my old cars flooded and it was a constant battle. Good luck with that!! (the stereo wire doesnt seem like too big of a deal you could take that to an installer and take to them about it)
