What do you guys think I should do with my Lude?

Basically I have my project Prelude sitting and collecting dust.

I dont need it as a daily. I'm not desperate for the $1000 I assume I can get for it in current condition.

Its a 93 Vtec 5spd. Its got 5 lug conversion, Projector Headlights, 5th Gen Sunroof, S2000 Wheels, Coilovers, and I've got all kindsa parts for projects I intended on doing but never getting around to. The car has a perfect body and is in in excellent cosmetic shape.

The bad though is that its got a very rough idle, and a few syncro grinds in a few gears. My guess is it will take me paying someone around $2500 to do a complete overhaul of it. Or, $1500 to have someone tear both down and fix whatever is causing it to behave this way (hopefully not finding anything tooo serious wrong)

The goal of the car was to be a project that I could work on and learn on in my spare time. And if I pay someone to do all the work, and not work on it myself, kinda defeats the whole purpose I've had for the car from day one. But it doesn't look like the spare time is going to happen anytime soon since I'm going back to school. And the location is the bigger issue since I will be going into a condo and not a home where I will have access to a garage.

Option 1: Keep the car at a family member's place, it'll sit and continue to collect dust for probably a few years till I obtain a place that i can work on it again. I will not be able to really work on it there, it'll just be a safe place to store it indefinitely.

Option 2: Attempt to part it out completely, would be a damn shame beacuse its body and overall package is in awesome shape. Just needs someone to give its motor and transmission the TLC that it needs.

Option 3: Attempt to sell it as is and just cut my losses. Not too keen on this idea since I'm not desperate for the few bucks that it could bring in. (My guess is around $1000 with all the aftermarket goodies on it)

Option 4: Pay someone else to fix it, My guess is around $1500 to get it running right... and hopefully get around $3000 for it in its new better running condition... But thats a pie in the sky dream I think (to get $1500)

I've got a 2011 5.0 Mustang now thats replaced my S2000 and Accord as my daily driver. Its a great car, more power than Ill ever need and plenty practical (not nearly as bad on gas as most would assume) -- So paying someone to fix the Prelude for regular use daily immediate use is not necessary at this time.

What are your thoughts guys?

I hate to tell you what to do, but since you asked, I say sell the Accord or s2k for the extra cash to fix the lude. You've got a great looking car man, get it back to pristine condition.

Re: What do you guys think I should do with my Lude?

i wanna tell you the same thing djp told you but idk how much you know about cars. i mean, i'm a complete noob taht just started working on his own prelude. it started as a project but now is my daily transport and is a pain in the ass having to fix many things on a daily ride and add to that the fact that i'm a noob. so if you wanna go throught the pain (which is alot, but is also worth it, cuz i'm learining alot) sell tha others. if not, i guess you can just sale it as is or part it out. you might get about the same if not a bit more extra.

Re: What do you guys think I should do with my Lude?

Having a lude requires time and money, looks like you have other cars, me myself wouldnt sell my car It s been my first car struggled with it. If you really like it keep it A prelude isnt like any other car, my opinion ;)

Re: What do you guys think I should do with my Lude?

Thanks for the opinions thus far folks.

Just want to clarify. I'm simplifiying and re-prioritizing my life a bit here.

The Accord and S2000 are already gone. They've been replaced by a new daily driver, ONE car. My 5.0 Mustang. (see pic at the bottom of this post)

The question is simply, what he heck do I do with this prelude, that I have no time to work on. I do have the money but dont really need to spend it on fixing a car I dont need to use daily, nor that will be worth more any more as far as I can tell, as a result.

The Prelude is simply a project car. Do I hang on to it and hope that some day I get around to it? Or can I make enough selling it to make it worth ditching the project. If I do sell it, whats the best way? Fix and Sell? Sell as is? Part out?

I can afford to get it running right. But defeats the purpose since I wont be learning **** in paying someone else to do it.

I'm in Fort Lauderdale, I was actually in Deltona this weekend lol... PM me if you offer me something that makes sense to me, we may have something here.

I've got so many parts for the prelude its ridiculous.. All kinds of projects that I never started but bought **** for when times were better and before I decided to go back to grad school. If the price is right I would sell everything I have for it, and the car altogether.

Re: What do you guys think I should do with my Lude?

I am heartbroken to see you've sold the Accord. By far THE car I lust for most of any members rides. On the same token, I REALLY like the '11 Mustangs.

I would venture to say you can get more for the lude than that. If you think you want to cut your losses and get rid of it for $1000 Ill hop on a plane and come get it!

Re: What do you guys think I should do with my Lude?

i say keep the prelude stored, continue to buy more goodies for it, and build your self a graduation present when you finish school. thats my plan for mine. although mine is a DD for me, i will soon be getting a new civic si in the near future and will store my prelude. like you said, all the work and money that i put into it is not worth a few bucks i will get for it. if you sell or part out later down the road you will probably regret it, because it seems like you arent hurting for cash, so why bother with it???

A coolie in a Mustang lol

How would you say the interior of the mustang compares to the interior of the accord? and how would you say the handling of the mustang compares to the s2000.

If i was in dire need of the cash I probably would get rid of it. But since thats not the case, its not like its costing me anything to keep it. So I probably will just hang on to it for a while.

Gotta break outta the norm bro... we can't all drive Camry's and Maximas lol..

The Mustang's interior is a different animal than the accord's. The accord designers were trying to have a modern look. The ford designers were trying to give a modern interpretation of a classic design.

In terms of quality though, I'm positive that the Mustang's is better. Something I never thought I'd say. Everything from the quality of the leather to the materials used on the dash. Better stereo for sure, SYNC is actually not a gimmic, its pretty badass, and much easier to use than the Accord's voice recognition. Being able to change the gauge colors, the halo ring around the gauges, and all the ambient lighting in the interior is pretty trick as well.

But the most interesting thing is the fit and finish. I loved my accord, but in 1.5 years there are all kinds of creeks and rattles. Most of em' I fixed myself by finding them and padding them or white greasing them. So far I can say unequivocally that the Mustang has been built better and put together better. Who knows, we'll see how it holds up over time, but so far, the Inside of the Mustang has proven to be a much nicer/more comfortable place to be than the inside of my Accord was.

As far as handling vs the S2000. We're really comparing apples to oranges here. The S2000 was a Handing dream. So tight so crisp, wasnt' the fastest thing out there but there was soemthing great about being able to throw it around with confidence. The mustang, IS the fastest thing out there... before getting into modded cars, or high dollar sports cars. It does feel big and heavy, but it was designed to do so. There are articles upon articles showing that the Mustang is a better handler than even the current M3 on the track. For about 3k in mods, including springs, shocks, new lower control arms, and sway bars, this car and be made into just as a tight handling of a machine as the M3 is, and therefore I'd have to assume as good as an S2000 as well.

While it may be possible to make it just as capable, I'm not gonna lie, due to its size and weight it would never be as fun as the s2000 was to throw it around. But again, do you get your thrills from roller coasters or bungee jumping... two different animals is the point.

Ultimately the Mustang, for me, was the perfect blend of the sheer fun of the S2000 AND the practicality/comfort of the Accord. And since I was getting rid of two, in order to get one, it was imperative to me that I found something that would combine the best of both cars.

I looked at Camaros as well, but the mustang is simply just a better overall car that is much easier to live with every day, and is still quicker than the current SS :) I was also looking into the Genesis Coupe, but my girlfriend has a 3.8 Automatic Grand Touring model... and even though I would have gotten a v6 Track package, still didn't want the same car as her... Ultimately the first time you lay the hammer down on 412hp (conservative factory rating) - its hard to want to drive anything else lol, especially something that is fully covered for 5yrs/60k including all maintenance.

On my way to making it look like this (which is the reason I dont know if I really wanna throw my extra cash into the Prelude, vs making the mustang look like this):

PM me your offer.

I didn't realize there'd be anyone interested in it in its current condition. But If i get something decent for it even at a loss, I'll consider it.

I'm going to be in NY this weekend, but like on tuesday I'll go get it cleaned up and start posting some pics on the forum(s) -- if I get a decent offer, I'll let it go.

Honestly not really. I was looking into getting an NSX for a toy and fixing the prelude up to be a reliable DD... but reality had to set in an priorities needed to be straight.

I thought of the Evo and STi, and to be honest only reason I see a benefit to those is if I were up north in a snowy climate but wanted the power still.

Personally I think the STi is butt ugly, and I dont trust Mitsu reliability for ****. Not to mention that comparably equipped both cars would have been about 5k more than what I ended up getting the Mustang for. Especially since they're negotiable on Mustang prices, but not on the Evo's prices since that is one of only two cars in their entire lineups dealers actually have a demand for.

I probably would have considered the EVO seriously if I lived in NY. But in FL, completely not necessary. Mustang + same 5k that the EVo costs in addition = one sick ass machine. Fully factory backed.

Re: What do you guys think I should do with my Lude?

uooo a ford mustang!

Here an American car is similar wealth.

The cars we see here in Europe are mostly diesel, because gasoline is very expensive to 1.27 € per liter. ($ 1.75)

I personally if I can, I'll take the prelude ... but then I think, for what?
So I passed that I have 7 car garage ..... I'll have to get rid of them .... jejeejej
