changing timing belt

im changing the timing belt in my car and i have never done it before so i need to know how to do it. Also what else should i change while im changing the belt out, and a shop is out of the question the car doesnt run right now im rebuilding the whole thing, so if anyone can tell me the best they can how to do it over this and what tools might be needed that would be great.

thank you

Re: changing timing belt

The service manuals have good guides of how to change the belt, you can download one for free for an example from hondatech.info: Honda service manuals. Straight link to the manual: http://downloads.hondatech.info/Auto...%20Manuals.zip

It's a good idea to replace the water pump and belt tensioner as well when you get there.

If you are changing a TBelt on an H22 you should research a manual tensioner swap. If its an F22 or an H23 you should be ok as is.

Re: changing timing belt

yeah if its an f22 or h23 it's alot easier because you don't need to take the tensioner out because it is manual so you can just loosen it to remove and put a new belt on.

the h22 has a gay auto tensioner that is just a pain in the a$$.. i know from experience...

Re: changing timing belt

Timing isn't too difficult. The most important thing is to make sure the timing belt is on properly and CRANK THE ENGINE MULTIPLE TIMES BY HAND BEFORE YOU EVER ATTEMPT TO START IT. That is a crucial step and can save you time and money.
