Icon10 G23 build starts this week

Well ppl I'm goin to pick up another h23 and an f23 Tuesday and Wednesday. My build is finally gonna happen!! The h23 has a bad bottom end so I'm basically getting the complete engine and a bunch of other parts for 50$. The f23a1 came out of a 99 accord and it has 120k on it for 100$. I get to keep my h23 to the side for a spare just in case which is awesome. But as far as what I'm doin . . . Getting the block to the machine shop to make sure it's straight and good. Getting the head to my buddy who's gonna be doing bigger valves and porting and all that fun stuff. I'm gonna use forged k20 pistons . . . Still unsure on which company but def goin with 9.0:1's and boosting it. I hoping to get at minimum 250whp. Also I still gotta buy all the small stuff turbo, injectors, etc. But I will be keeping this thread fresh with my progress on everything so stay tuned for lots of pics lol anyone have any insight on this please let me know your thoughts on my project

Just the thread I needed to hurry up and finish mine. I wish I could find a good deal on F23's down here. Paid $250 for mine. Even D15's go for at least $200 here

Re: G23 build starts this week

Well I read an article about the way k20 positions are designed and they are actually under more stress in these applications. I'm thinking either doing the f23/h23 with stock f internals and boosting that or rebuilding my h23 and boosting it. I'm not looking for a track whore or a high horse monster. My lude is my dd and it has to be reliable. I'm kinda torn on this issue

Where's this article? Stock K20 pistons need to be run "backwards" but I've never heard of issues with them

Re: G23 build starts this week

Yeah they have to be ran backwards but then you have to have the pistons machined so the valves don't hit. I just don't think it's a good idea for longevity and reliability that's all

Re: G23 build starts this week

Aftermarket K pistons don't have the offset the factory ones do, so they don't need to be run backwards. As far as machining, all you have to do is massage the valve reliefs a little. I know one guy who used a little grinding wheel on a Dremel and managed to get them perfect

Re: G23 build starts this week

As far as the G23 concept, it's been proven reliable as long as you build it properly. K20 pistons haven't been used much, but I don't see it being an issue. They're basically an unmodified Honda part. I wouldn't recommend using stock K20 pistons on a turbo setup because of the higher CR

i was planning on getting forged 9:1 k20 cp pistons. high comp and turbos are a bad mix.

Are they 9.1:1 in a K20? Because it won't be the same in a G23. An H23 head with a stock F23 bottom is about 8.8:1. K20A2 pistons are about 12.5:1, and K20A3 are 11:1

Re: G23 build starts this week

Well I just got off the phone with wiseco and the dude told me he will make me pistons for the f23 block. . . Which is awesome. On top of that it'll be around 560 which isn't bad at all considering I'd be paying that much for forged k20 pistons that are a reliability issue. So in my mind this is looking to be the way to go.

Did you see this article?

K24 VTEC Versus G23 VTEC - Tech Knowledge - Import Tuner Magazine

Or this by Pirate?
New Frankenstein Engine = G23 (F23/H23 write up, Long, 56K beware) - Honda-Tech

Should be good info for you if you're trying to really do this build. I was thinking about it for a while myself.

Re: G23 build starts this week

I've read both of those articles a few times lol and quite a few more I've found. I talked to the guys at cp-carillo and they are gonna make me pistons and rods for the f23 block and they are gonna design the piston top for the h23 combustion chamber design.
