prelude down opinions?

Alright guys so her is the deal. On my way to class this morning my car started ticking like s mother. I had no power behind the pedal at all. So I made it to town from the country and all I heard was a crazy squealing sound my oil dumby light came on my car stopped. There's every bit of oil from my car on the ground. So I need some ideas to wether I should possibly rebuild or look for a h23 or upgrade to an h22. My other option is use my money I got for a loan don't have much only arould 1700 but any ideas are welcome. Thanks

Re: prelude down opinions?

you have some 4th gen bad luck thing going on. its more easy to find an h22 and swap that in. you can rebuild the H23 for around the same price and make more power then an H22

Re: prelude down opinions?

what would i need for an h22 seeing as i have the si's h23. ive looked a litle bit but i cant find a full list. i have most what i need to swap. including a semi heated shop engine hoist yada yada

but im at a loss i have no clue where to start, what parts to get. gonna take the head off sometime this week.

http://www.jspecauto.com/catalog_pro...spx?prod_id=31 does this look like it would be a legit source for a new engine? or no

Re: prelude down opinions?

Go to Hmotorsonline.com for an h22a. Its 1200 shipped to ur door (motor only). Best place on the web to buy em. As for whats needed....nothin really. u can make a vtec wire an us ur harness or buy an h22 harness. thats it. I have a 95 si and i have an h22a in it. Swapped it myself lol.

Re: prelude down opinions?

can you see where the oil is comming from?
its likely your balance shaft seal. same thing happened to me same event occured and same "oil puking". its a 10 dollar part at honda.but if thats what the problem is you should change your timing and balance shaft belts and since you've got it apart change everything else up there as well to prevent similar happenings (front main, cam seals, oil drive gear seal, water pump, balance shaft seal) total cost me 179 @ the dealership and they even loaned me the pully tool and the shop manual (cool guys)
and a PITA if you have never done it before but it beats 1200
i would do a compression test to see if your rings are fried if they arn't find the leak and fix it and save your self $1900 (cost of total proper engine swap ive looked into it and i can get cheap parts)
you will need a fuel line or rail, ecu, run wire(s),clutch, new or resurfaced flywheel, new timing belt new balancer shaft belt, new water pump, mess with your distributior, new fluids, and a tune up and i think thats it for the swap.
if you got the cash to spend do the engine swap its worth it if you don't well then fix your engine for less than 200 bucks and keep your lude on the road.

just my .02

Re: prelude down opinions?

any engine ran dry i would throw away.... replace the h23 because the h22 isnt much of an upgrade.... I have did the swapp and i ended up puting the h23 back in..... my friends roll h22s and they still wish someday they could beat me lol... not sure what it is but the h23's create a weird leverage at low rpms and theres a few things to in crease the higher rpms but thats a lil trick of the trade :P
