water pump quality ?????

While I have my head and timing off I'm gonna replace the water pump. What is a good brand water pump? Whats the difference in quality? I see water pumps online ranging from 30 - 70 dollars. 70 $ seems fine to me for a better quality water pump, but is it necessary.... or will the water pump at kragen or autozone be of reasonable quality.

Re: water pump quality ?????

I am new to imports in general, but people tell me to go with Honda OEM parts for water pumps and timing belts. Maybe someone else will chime in though with more experience.

stick with honda. water pump failure means your engine will be trashed. The extra money is worth the peace of mind.

OEM on parts as important as the water pump and it's not like it's going to break your bank.

OEM. Don't take chances on something as cheap as a water pump.

A1 Cardone is good brand i would say because that's the brand of my dizzy but they were known as re-manufacturer so I would suggest you stick with GMB its also made in japan or get OEM. don't go cheap on any internal parts if you want your car to last longer.

I would like to nominate this post as dumbest post of 2011. Yes. Two days into the year, and already a nomination.

if someone needs help lets try not to be such jerks about it and actually help. not everyone grows up watching theyre dad or other family members work on cars. so what sounds completly stupid to us that know something about mechanic work can soound completely logical do someone who knows very little.

GMB water pump. it's ok, I installed on my prelude and camry. The gasket come with the pump look like carton/paper you have to use FIPG (toyota) Honda bond (honda) it say on the print out. Oem have metal gasket no need FIPG or HB. but it's very cheap $25

honda w/pump come with o-ring. (f23a)

douches eh? try looking at the stickied 4th gen resource guide. all the info you need is in there, via schematics or previously posted threads. a douchebag is someone who comes to a forum and asks really basic questions and doesn't use the resources available, then ignores the advice of people who have owned and been working on preludes for 10 years. thanks kid
when your motor dies in 10k miles because you wanted to save 50 bucks on a water pump, I do NOT want to see a panic posted thread asking what you should do... good luck with your car

if you notice the pattern of the posts, you'll notice why some members are giving attitude. We deal with these types of questions all the time, with often similar results. some valued members with large amounts of post have suggested the same part. some newer members with not so many posts have suggested a different part. my point is, and stands that opinions are going to vary, most times based on personal preference.
I've been here for a while and seen many things tried and failed. This is why I suggest the parts I do, so take it for what it's worth

p.s. my dad never wrenched on a car with me it's called research guys.

I couldn't have said it better. You asked a question and got some great feedback from guys that are known to have some insight as to what works well and is tried and true. I would accept that as good advice and move on instead of calling names.

Re: water pump quality ?????

my whole point to starting this thread was not to save 50 $ on a water pump lol. I would imagine that there are better than stock honda parts out there. Based on these responses I am now researching prices on a oem pump.

Re: water pump quality ?????

imo buy a modestly priced one. not too expensive but deff not the cheapest you can find. oem or comparable will be fine. most guys on here prolly have 130,000+miles without even looking at the water pump.
So the water pump is an important component but at the same time its a very simple one that lasts so you might end up paying more when you dont necessarily have to. just my opinion.
