Custom exhaust piping- what did you pay?

I found out today that the diameter of the hytech replica's is 2.5in, while the apexi n1 exhaust system piping is only around 2.3in. They'll match up but going to a smaller piping size half way threw will negate the purpose as it would restrict air flow. I also found out that custom exhaust piping is a couple hundred less then something name brand, such as apexi or spoon.

For those who have custom piping, what did you pay? For the piping, option of them installing the exhaust all together, and the name brand muffler / universal resonator?

I have a 2.5 inch mandrel bent from kteller with an obx twin loop, no resonator, no cat, ran me about close to 4 with installation. Pipe was 220ish i think muffler ran 90 bucks and I'm good friends with a mechanic and he weld it all up for me for 50 bucks although it took him about 3 hours.

You're running a 4cylinder NA... I'm pretty sure 60mm is MORE than sufficient.

It wont be na forever. I plan on keeping the lude for sometime. When the engine in it blows eventually ill be putting a rebuilt h22a in it. Id rather not do the exhaust twice. Im even considering 3in for turbo ready. A big maybe though.

Dual mufflers is another idea im playing with. A shop is probably my best bet.

3 inches isnt too much for an NA H22, it actually helps it.

Re: Custom exhaust piping- what did you pay?

Interesting post, thanks. 3in it is. What about the header? Will 2.5 work or where would I find a 3in collector? They're using muffler shop mufflers too, should I drop my apexi n1 idea? I want a nice sound.

Alright, I'll look into it. I'll be badgering the welder with all these questions, but you guy's are welcome to answer them if you know the answer. xD

Do they sell 3in n1's? If I get just the muffler, wont the piping right before the muffler itself still be 2.3in?

Re: Custom exhaust piping- what did you pay?

Yay for searching. =D

apexi n1 muffler 75mm items - Get great deals on Parts Accessories items on eBay Motors!

Care to explain the collector though? Like if I buy the tri-y (hytech replica) headers, how would modifying the collector go? What's done exactly just so I have a better understanding.

EDIT: Erm, is it ok if it's turbo, if I'm without one? I talking specifically in tq and hp. I briefly read on a charger (I think) forum that going with a 3in decreased his tq quite a lot. I didnt think to hard about it, its a different type of car altogether. But is there such thing as too big?

Re: Custom exhaust piping- what did you pay?

The faster you can get the exhaust gases out the faster you can pull in more air and fuel. Why do you think this S2K is running no exhaust, just the turbo manifold out the fender.

Re: Custom exhaust piping- what did you pay?

It's different on NA motors though. Running the ending the exhaust that close to the exhaust ports on an NA motor would hurt performance, not help it. I know Blake just talked it about in his thread here or over on PP, you should check it out.

How will the sound be with 3in vs 2.5in? Louder, softer? A whole bunch or only a little?

****, ask 1 question, and open a can of worms. ><

Now what about mandrel vs crush? Mandrel is less bending, for more direct exhaust flow? Is this site any good?

92-96 HONDA PRELUDE EXHAUST TUBING KIT

It'd still bring it to a shop and let them do what they need to to get it on there and modify the header collector to 3in.

I'm reopening the can of worms 4 years later.
a) because i'm new here
b) to offer something to this.

I just got my first Prelude last weekend and have been having the worst time trying to decide on an exhaust. I originally was hunting for a Merc. Cougar, and have spent quite a bit of time on Cougar forums. They all swear by that piping, and it's what i've decided to stick to with my 'Lude.
