jdm one piece headlight?

Ok so I have the JDM onepiece black housing headlights on my car. I just have a very simple question. Right now there are h4 bulbs sitting in there. First off they plug in and work but when I try to lock the bulb in place it does not. It's like it just sits there when you put the rubber thing back on it. IS this right. Second I was planning on getting H.I.D's soon and as far as i have seen in the past they have all been H1 bulbs. What type of bulbs should be in my car for stocklight bulbs and H.I.D bulbs

True JDM one piece headlights use H4, while replicas use 9006.

Re: jdm one piece headlight?

the bulb locks in place with a metal clip that surrounds the base of the bulb, and is about the thickness of a paperclip. you can see an example in this pic:

are you missing this clip? or you can't get the clip to work?

I'm not 100% positive on that, but I'm fairly certain.

Re: jdm one piece headlight?

Hey guys I have an hid question. I want some xenon 8000k low beams, but id also like high beams as well. Is it plasuiable to get 2 kits, one for hi one for lo? Will it be too much strain on the car battery? And if I go that route, what should recommended hi's be? 6000k, 4000k or match 8000k like lo's? Finally where have you bought your xenons? Lots of sites sell them but they range from 50 dollars to 200 dollars. I don't wanna overlay or get crappy replica's. Thanks.

sure if you want a crapload of extra wire all over your bay. **** PNP kits . A friend gave me a xentec bi xenon kit a month ago and i installed it like a dummy. worked fine until i cleaned under the hood one day then one of the ballast stopped working. the connectors on those kits need to be heat shrinked to keep out water but thats not the worst problem. it is the blinding glare that is produced by not having a proper beam pattern.

Re: jdm one piece headlight?

Xenon and Xentec are different. Xentec is a wannabe Xenon. But anyway, I'm not worried about wiring. I'll clean it up best I can but I dont have, or want, a show bay, is it practical is all I'm asking. I'm still learning about HIDs. Do you not need hi's with HID since they're so bright? Or do people usually just stick with stock hi's?

Re: jdm one piece headlight?

Stock highbeams. HID's are too slow for use as a highbeam. Plus, the short duration of their use reduces their lifespan.

Also, you say you're still learning about HID, yet you call Xentec a "Wannabe xenon". Are you high?

I made that assumption at work pretty quickly. Thought twice about saying it. Why are ebay Xentec 50 dollars, and Xenon on other dealers sites like 120 dollars? Usually companies try to copy similar names of good quality products to fool consumers into thinking it is, or close to the same thing.

Thanks for the hi beam's answer though, stock it is.

Re: jdm one piece headlight?

The kit that DDM tuning offers is $35 + Shipping. I've heard nothing but good things about them, too. The quality seems pretty good; a buddy of mine has them in his Sonoma.

All Plug-n-Play kits are about the same as far as quality. They're all made in China by underpaid laborers.

You have no idea what you're talking about.

A 35w HID kit uses less power than you stock 55w bulbs.

DDM tuning all the way I've had mine in my 4g for like 4 months now and not one problem. Also they're ballasts are lifetime warranty. Mine are 55w 5000k's.

I think I'm going to go with 35w 10k, or maybe 55w 12k, I want that blueish`ness. As for the illegalness, if I get busted I'll cry my way out of it saying they were an xmas gift and I had no idea, and I'll go down to 8k. For 35 bucks its nothing really.

Re: jdm one piece headlight?

10000k and higher are way too blue to be of any use. 8000k is pushing it on the usefulness. Once they burn in and begin to color shift, they get pretty blue. As HIDs age they colorshift more and more, to the point where the ballast can no longer keep the arc ignited. As they colorshift, they climb higher and higher up the color temp scale, which means they get bluer and bluer til they turn pink and purple.

Blue light is the hardest for our eyes to process, as it diffuses and scatters faster than longer wavelengths.
