Has anyone done a H23 Euro-R swap?

I am very curious to know if anyone has any experience in doing an Accord Euro-R H23 vtec swap into a 96 ( it had an H23 non vtec). I need some advice as to what all it will entail as far as modification goes. Any advice will be very welcome.

Re: Has anyone done a H23 Euro-R swap?

Thanks I am just unsure about how to wire vtec right now. My motor won't be in until next Friday but I am hoping that I can get some good info before then. and hopefully I will have her up and running by next Sunday. There will be plenty of pics as soon as I get it in and I will let everyone know how it turns out. I got such I good deal on the motor I just couldn't turn it down though.

Re: Has anyone done a H23 Euro-R swap?

There are a TON of threads already covering this. I found them easily searching....it is my plan.

You will need to convert the engine to obd-1
Edit: I realized you said 96 so scratch that. BUT, you will need to run a chipped p28.

Search the forums first. Search h23vtec, or bluetop.

Re: Has anyone done a H23 Euro-R swap?

Basic drop in just like the h22, you'll need to change some injector plugs over I'm sure of and some other small stuff but its just as easy as the H, the only sucky part is that the H23vtec only came in an auto version so make sure u get a p28 ecu.

Re: Has anyone done a H23 Euro-R swap?

The 'Blue Top' H23a vtec has a few minor issues with the swap for your setup.

Physically, its the same as swapping a H22 into your car. Obviously you will be swapping over a few parts, reusing your wiring harness, etc.

The problem: The 96 model is OBD 2. Thus, it has an OBD 2 wiring harness. The Blue Top(h23a VTEC) is also OBD 2. No problem right? Well, if you can find the right ECU there isnt... BUT, the H23a VTEC 'blue top' only came in an auto form.....

Good luck finding the right ECU. To do this correctly, you need to convert both to OBD 1 and go with a chipped ECU and have it tuned. Otherwise, you are wasting your time and money.

Also. Keep in mind the Rev limiter is about 6500. The motor isnt balanced well enough to spin it much higher for a long lifespan.

FYI: I have a h23vtec hybrid motor in my 4th gen. Ive been a prelude owner and enthusiast for about 10 years now.

He is correct, just easier to do an H22 OR F20b

Re: Has anyone done a H23 Euro-R swap?

My h23vtec ran ok with the stock obd2 ecu, only way it will pass emissions. The minute I installed the chipped p28 obd1 ecu the motor really came to life. Not really sure with the differences between the 4g and 5g, but if you need to pass emissions make sure you swap over all the correct parts.

Re: Has anyone done a H23 Euro-R swap?

Euro R was an H22. The H23 VTEC was from the JDM Accord SiR wagon. I believe it only came in OBD2, so putting it into your '96 won't be hard. If you're keeping your auto then you'll have to source the proper ECU. Dunno if the triptronic ECU from a 5G will work, even after you disable the immobilizer

Re: Has anyone done a H23 Euro-R swap?

hey i dont think u can tune a obd2 ecu.
unless they're giving u a piggy back system. u better clear that up w/ them

sometimes these guys that we buy all these motor from will tell u what u wanna hear just to get u off there back.lol

i swapped in this motor 2-3 months ago .and its awesome
torque in the lower band and power (vtakkk) in the higher band cant go wrong with that.
you will love it

Re: Has anyone done a H23 Euro-R swap?

What should you do if you're doing this in a 92 obd1 prelude and the wire harness isn't connecting and you bought a chipped p28 ecu? Should you get an obd2 harness that goes straight from the ecu to the engine or keep the obd1 harness and replace a bunch of parts and buy a bunch of adapters?
