Killing starters on my 92

So i just bought a 92 Prelude for really cheap..which means it has a few flaws. While in the possession of the previous owner someone attempted to steal it and i guess they jammed something like a screw driver into the ignition switch.

Now when you start it you can only turn the key 3/4 of the way..just enough to make it start. If it goes all the way it gets stuck and fries the starter. Ive had to replace the starter twice now and im tired of it.

What do I need to replace to fix this? My first guess is an ignition switch? but im far from any kind of mechanic and would like someone more knowledgeable to give me some insight.

Thanks in advanced

It does sound like the ignition switch needs to be replaced. If you have no mechanical background you should take this to a mechanic.

Here is a link to a great website that will help in any of your questions regarding repairing your ignition, Honda / Acura Manuals - Hondahookup.com. You will have to become a member to download their manual but hell it's worth it right! Good luck.

Re: Killing starters on my 92

heres what i did. kind of similiar situation. but my ignition just stopped working. i installed a push button start. and now i just have to turn the key to unlock the steering wheel. way cheaper than a new ignition switch
