Exhaust time!

Decided to hold off on the paint as the last thing to really do, a buddy went to kick my tire and hit my fender, peeling off a nice chunk of paint. Waiting to paint seemed like a better idea. -.-;

I cleaned to egr ports today, went as far as taking off one of the bottom bolts on the manifold until we ruled out taking the mani off the engine. Bad idea for a limited amount of sunlit hours. >< I dont know why but the p13 mani's have weld slugg's ontop of the ports. So it took a good deal of grinding to reach the cap to pull out. They weren't as dirty as we had thought, a coat hanger, carbon cleaner spray and shop vac is what we used. Most of it will get blown out over time.

Anyway, exhaust is next, and I was wondering what you guys recommend. I'm looking at the apexi n1 right now, with hytech (tri-y) replica headers. I like loud, not WTF IS THAT SOUND 10 MILES AWAY, but a little head turner is always fun. My buddy has spoon n1 on his lude and it sounds nice, but I can't seem to find it retailed for prelude's, and it's a tad louder then I'd like myself.

The real question is what are you guys using as cat's? The apexi n1 comes with a cat correct? If you get the whole system. But then I see set up's with megaflow cats and so forth. Are you just not using the one apexi gives you and going with another aftermarket brand? Can you have 2? For some reason my friends spoon has 2 cat look a likes, both much bigger in diameter then the rest of the piping, one right after the test pipe and one right before the pipe L's to the back bumper.

Catback exhausts don't come with a new cat.

Tri-Y headers have a "JDM style" collector, meaning a test pipe for a USDM Prelude won't work. Also, the collector is like 6 inches shorter.

Tri-Y headers sit stupid low

Tri-y headers leak at the slip joints unless you a) weld them or b) beat the sh!t out of them.

N1 exhausts are loud, no matter what the brand.

Those "cats" you see are resonators.

Did I miss anything?

Re: Exhaust time!

That helps. Would you suggest something other then tri-y? I've been told any other header is a waste of money for it wont provide any real gain. I'm not spending more then $400-600 on it.

The test pipe is included in the purchase of the tri-y, does that make a difference?

Will I need to buy an aftermarket cat with the header and "full exhaust" system?

Without a tune, I wouldn't expect much from ANY header.

Yes, that's different.

If you want to keep a cat, then yes.

Re: Exhaust time!

I plan to get a tune eventually, it's on the end of my list though.

Are there any other headers that pair up to the hytech design that are of higher quality then that of ebay?
