Cv axle, transmission, I have no idea, help,

well, I havent been on here at all, been busy with nursing school and re-did the suspension on the prelude and re-boosting in the winter.

So, I was heading to my girls work last friday night to follow her to her dads house, and then got into it with an integra. (streetracing is bad, i got the consequences of it, but still won lol.) but anyway, when I turned around because I passed the resturant she worked at, my car started sounding like a grind, as if plastic was hitting/rubbing against the pavement. We got to her house and we were about to leave and get some gas the car started buckling. What it would do is go, and pop, pop, pop, then stop, so, we took it down to my cuzns and I broke the cv axle, so we replaced it, but now its still doing the same pop, stop thing but not as bad with the new axle,, I have no idea if the other axle is broken, or the transmission, the clutch/gears are all fine, just when I put it to first, it would go, pop (like buckling) then stop, so, I'm literally stumped.
the engine is h22a4 in a 4g shell.
save up for a transmission? or buy a new axle? or any new ideas? thank you

i said check the other axle, not replace it. checking it doesn't cost anything, so IDK why your complaining about spending money

Re: Cv axle, transmission, I have no idea, help,

question: how would it affect the transmission?
because it would feel to grab, it would move, then stop, during while its in gear moving it would pop.

Re: Cv axle, transmission, I have no idea, help,

If the boot is torn the axle needs replaced anyways dude. And it would affect the differential in the transmission ( I would assume) because the teeth of the diff wouldn't be lining up with the diff of the axle, IE, you spun an axle inside of the diff and it ****ed **** up. Lol. But hey, I don't know anything :D

Re: Cv axle, transmission, I have no idea, help,

1) If your boot is ripped, you need to take a long hard look at the CV. I wouldn't say it HAS to be replaced EVERY time a boot rips, but you will always need to pull the axle, clean it and rebuild the CV and change the boot. Expensive at a shop, cheep at home if you dont count your own labor ^_^

2) the pop pop dead doesnt seem like it could be JUST the axle. To me, that sounds like tranny somewhere, unfortunatly. However, if it might be worth draining the tranny or better yet power flush it and refil with synchromesh fluid. Additionally, does it die on straight aways or turns or both? Can you put the shifter into all the gears? IDK but to me it sounds like it is time for a tranny.

3)lastly, no one should ever be like me; if you have a boot, bushing or any other similar material that is comprimized, replace it asap.

Re: Cv axle, transmission, I have no idea, help,

so, we brought it to a transmission place, that does free checks, and so its sitting up there right now, I'm planning to replace that axle, I replaced the driverside already, when i put my gas it'll go but pop like hell, i'll do my own work and all that.
it dies just randomly, if going straight in first, it'll go, then pop and died, but if we wait for it to "build" up it'll go, it pops real bad while turning, I can put the shifter in all gears no problem. I meant to do a video today. but i totally forgot.

Re: Cv axle, transmission, I have no idea, help,

another question;
what transmission would go great with an h22a4?
I know a few accords with h23a1s, and some f22s,
since f22/h23/h22 are interchangeable.

Re: Cv axle, transmission, I have no idea, help,

1) current problem; IDK, but I would rule out your axle as the cause BECAUSE it sounds like it is tied to your engine revs, and that doesn't make sense for the axle. If it were the axle, at say 45mph you might get something because of the cenrtifical force. So to me, there are three areas to check; clutch, tranny and differential. IDK enough about them specifically to go further with my TS though.

2) Frankenstein: With the non-vtec/non h23 engine, I would not use the h23 tranny. Just my OP, but it seems to me the longer gears would need more HP to run optimally. That said, I wonder if an h22 w/ h23 tranny would have better fuel economy? Hmmm...

Let us know what the shop says eh?
