Gas mileage went down

I changed out my entire exhaust last weekend, manifold to muffler new cat and o2's also. Every piece of the old exhaust had a crack or hole in it somewhere. After the first tank of gas my mileage went from 27 to 22 mpg! I drove it normally, it's my DD with 180k on it so I don't beat on it at all.

Only thing I can think of is that the computer needs to realize that everything is back to normal and readjust accordingly. Should I unhook the negative cable for 5-10 minutes to encourage it to start this process? Any other ideas?

Thanks!

yeaa just unhook that negative for a bit and it should be fine. I had to replace my oil pan a few weeks ago and the friend helping me had forgot to hook the 02 sensor in the mid pipe back up. I hooked it back up and I was still getting code 41. Pulling the Negative fixed that issue and I got better MPG

When I pulled the midpipe I noticed my oil pan is gettin pretty bad right above the mid pipe, how bad was it to pull and replace the pan? It didn't look like it'd be too bad. Or I might try to slap some JB Weld on it and see what that does

hardest part about it i would say is pulling the mid pipe off if it hasn't been off recently its going to be a pita...just be sure to drain the oil before you pull it (common sense i know but sometimes you get lost in the process....ask me how i know =)

I didn't think OBD I had adaptive strategies, thought that was just OBD II.

Or is your car a '96?

You are correct, but Ya mine is a '96, forgot to post that part! I reset it sunday so we'll see how this tank goes. I'm sure it'll take a couple of tanks to get back to normal or better

Re: Gas mileage went down

Ok refilled it this morning and on the second tank since exhaust change my MPG was 15.5! WTF! I might as well be driving my wrangler cause at least that gets 17MPG! Hopefully it gets better after another tank or 2 otherwise I'm sellin, I put enough $ in this thing!
