question bout 4th gen aws

ok, i'll start off by sayin i use my preludes for dirt track racing. I got an 89 si that i bought and it came with a parts car, i stripped the parts car and kept the complete rear susp. Well i just picked up a 92 h23a1 with aws, and i gotta do away with it, is there anyway the complete rear section for the 89 will fit, or can someone give me some advice on the cheapest way to get rid of the aws, as there are like no 4th gens around @ the junk yards around here

Re: question bout 4th gen aws

why do you have to get rid of the 4ws????? 4th gens with this option are pretty rare...

Re: question bout 4th gen aws

The two rear suspensions aren't interchangable, but it's easy to disable the 4WS simply by pulling the fuse -- the rear steering should lock in the straight-ahead position.

Re: question bout 4th gen aws

one of our rules state that you cant have aws, awd, turbo,no vtech, or rotary powered motors, so even if i pull the fuse, which i have and they look under and see the rear rack ill be DQ. As for it being rare.... that kinda sux i picked up the car for $300, no title and no keys, and the dude said the motor was jsut rebuilt.. so i broke switch and fired it up... to hear a horrible rod knock. so ive been partin the interior and lights and crap to help pay for another h23 since i cant do the h22 swap cuz of the vtech rule. Dirt trackin is fun... but 2 many damn stupid rules. If anyone is interested in the aws, im in PA and willin to swap for stock rear. but thanx for takin the time to reply, now just gotta find a decent place to a crank for the h23 and b20a5

Looks at the rear of a 4th gen without 4ws and jus take out from yours wat u dont see on the regular 4th gen... my boy got a 4th gen wit 4ws, all i kno is that control box in the trunk.. u can always run bak those hoses/wires w.e and remove them

Do not do this!! When the 4ws motor is de-activated or faulty the rear wheels are only held pointing forward by springs. Given enough cornering force the wheels are still able to turn.

The only propper way to get rid of the 4WS is to swap it out with 2WS parts.

Good point -- they're pretty stiff springs, but given sufficent load, it could function as a passive 4WS mechanism, functionally similar to what Nissan or Mazda fielded. And having the springs in good shape is a must.
