Re: Problem with lights on the dashboard .HELP!

Very common problem, it's your dash shorting out you could say. Many believe it's because the power supply to the lights is too high, and will cause them to "blow."

Are you saying your individual lights work, but not your gauges? If your gauges (gas and temp) are really dim, or are just not working, then you need a new gauge. OEM honda sells it for $500, or you can get a part out, either ebay, or someone on the forums selling theirs, for around 25-100 dollars.

This is what it looks like. NOTICE: If you buy a used one, and it has these marks, it doesnt mean its shot, and you were scammed. The picture shown is my old one which was shot, the used one I got from a friend had the same marks, but worked fine. You wont know till its in the car and hooked up.

Its like I said, your chip is going bad (see picture). It's not a fuse, a fuse is a one time thing, if a fuse its bad then you'd have no lights at all. This is a very common problem.

Look for a part out, or hit ebay. "Digital cluster" "Dash cluster" ...etc

Re: Problem with lights on the dashboard .HELP!

I'm not sure if this is the right thread or not, but the lights for my tachometer, speedometer, gas, and temperature are out. The gauges themselves work, but there's no light so I can't drive at night. All the other check engine, key in ignition, etc. lights work fine. I tried replacing the bulbs but that hasn't worked. Is there a fuse or something that I'm missing? I've checked all the fuses I can think of and they're all seemingly fine. I don't know what else it could be and I need it fixed so I can drive at night again.

Re: Problem with lights on the dashboard .HELP!

You're talking about two different clusters. The speedo and tach are on one cluster, analog gauges with light bulbs. The lighting for the '92-93 cars is slightly different than the '94-'96. The temperature and gas are a separate cluster that's all one circuit board, with the electronic displays integrated -- if that's gone out, you need to replace the board/displays as described above.

If everything's working during the day, but goes dark when you turn the headlights on, look for a short in that switch before tearing down the instrument panel.

Re: Problem with lights on the dashboard .HELP!

It's a 1997 Prelude Base that I have, I don't know which car you guys are talking about. My dash lights still don't work and I found out neither do my brake lights. I really really need this fixed and any help is appreciated. I can't think of anything and I'm bad with electrical crap on cars. I've searched everywhere but nobody seems to have the same problem I do.

Re: Problem with lights on the dashboard .HELP!

This is the 4th gen section so folks tend to think you are talking about a 92-96 car.

5th gen cars (97-01) have a whole nother type of dash and with it a whole nother set of issues.
