Icon5 New Prelude owner! Help!

Sup lude owners! My name is Alex and I'm 18. I own 1996 Honda Prelude. I have owned it for about 4 months. I am also new to this awsome website! I love my car even though it needs a paint job and some guy recently crashed me while I was parked and not even in the car! I wanna start fixing my car now that I have a job! I wanna make it more powerful and sexy. What performance upgrade should I start with?! I have searched for hours on chips, oxygen sensors and all this stuff online and what not but don't know what's the best thing I can get to make it more stronger without spending alot of benjermans. This is my work, cruise, school and otherthings car aswell although I would like to preserve it but thats not gonna be possible for a few years. Thanks guys!

Re: New Prelude owner! Help!

Whats up Alex, God bless! Welcome to PZ... Well u can start off jus like almost everyone starts off wit hookin up they car with a cold air intake or short ram. AEM frm wat i heard makes the best for Honda. an intake is an intake, you'll gain your +3hp, LMBO!..

Where you gonna get your most power from is exhaust, so dont go too cheap on that. Coilovers was the best move i made for my lude. KSports $860 but worth every penny. It will tighten ya ride real good! and get some strut bars and sway bars... U can try taking out ya power steering, trust me you'll have way more fun witout it and it cleans up ya engine bay too. Once i took mines out, i threw the pump in the street and never worried about it again lol... Theres jus soo much, and theres do it yaself things to do too that wont even cost nuttin.. Look around the site, u'll find soo much jus as i did

Re: New Prelude owner! Help!

spend 400 to get a skunk 2 manifold worth the money then do basics intake, throttle body, 2.5 inch exaust downpipe, upgrade headers and get a p28 ecu chip it on chrome cheapest you can get. or you could go hondata 100 or 300 chip but you will need to get a tune or you will run lean and blow your motor best upgrades you can do for cheapest and not having your car off the road too long plenty of kick youll be happy with that for now

Re: New Prelude owner! Help!

Black is SEXY I love it!

Definitely do your research when you start considering the more expensive upgrades. The basics are simple- Air intake=doesn't really matter. Exhaust=matters a little more, Header=matters a little more, Intake manifold=even more.

After you do enough searching around, you'll find and be convinced that DC Sports and Megan headers are nothing more than a stock replacement and close to pointless if you're looking for power gains, you'll come across more than a few discussions/arguments pertaining to exhaust diameter, and you'll find that asking about mufflers will merely get you the opinions of sound more than anything else.

Bottom line though, get to know the search function, and take the time to read through the 'Stickied' topics throughout each section because those will contain some of the most common ideas/problems/questions you'll come across as a Prelude owner. If after some browsing and searching you can't find what you're lookin' for, feel free to throw a new thread up in the proper section cuz there's many extremely knowledgeable members on here.

Good to have you buddy, take care.

Re: New Prelude owner! Help!

Just get an exhaust setup and an intake, maybe a couple performance o2 sensors. You'll gain something in the area of 30-40whp.

Re: New Prelude owner! Help!

A Cat back exhaust really makes the car. I felt some of them are way over priced. Megan Racing has a great sounding one, well at least I think so and its not to pricey either
An AEM intake is also another possibilty
I am looking at getting a header or Short Shifter
Hopefully this helps

Re: New Prelude owner! Help!

What trim is the car? If it's an S, the whole exhaust upgrade would be pointless on an F22 and the H22 stuff doesn't fit.
