Trans fluid, at temp?

I had recent work done to my transmission, a new 2nd gear with its snycro, but now 5th grinds, not as bad, but it grinds. However once the car is running to temp (not engine temp, trans temp I suppose, 10+ min) the grind goes away completely.

The snycro might've been bad from the start, I don't know what fluid the previous owner used. I believe the trans shop put in regular oil.

Should I switch over to Honda MTF, or GM Snycromesh /w Friction Modified? Something that'll warm up quicker then oil.

Idk what your running on right now but you should definitely be running on Honda MTF. If that fix it then buy a quart of synchromesh and drain a half a quart out of the tranny and add that in.

Re: Trans fluid, at temp?

yeah some of the older preludes according to alldata say 10 w 30 is ok ( so shops will put this in ) if you look at the newer ones it says ok for temprorary use . i put 10w 30 in my trans after one swap and had the same issue . switched to honda mtf problem solved .. ever since ive always used honda mtf .. drain it refill with honda mtf and i promise the grind will go away ..
