h23 speed to gear ratio??

so after driving my lude for awhile ive noticed that my rpms are ridiculously high at highway speeds about 4500 at 80 in 5th gear is this the normal rpm range for a h23 5spd? or could the previous owner put in a h22 trans and not told me?

Re: h23 speed to gear ratio??

Thats about what my H22 gets on the highway, as far as RPMs go.

Actually...80 miles an hour....hell I forget, but mine is around 4500 yeah.

Re: h23 speed to gear ratio??

4500RPM on a h22 trans with a 4.266 final drive in 5th (.870:1), on 205/55-15 (870 RevsPerMile) OEM sized tires = 83.618891MPH

2000RPM on same info is 37.16395MPH

H23 trans @ 4500 4.266 final, .812 5th, and 205/55-15 = 89.5916 MPH

If you change tire size from OEM these numbers will be different. I made a program for my calculator that calculates these.
A=RPM
B=Gear ratio
C=Tire rev per mile
D=Final drive
(A/B)*60=E
(C^-1 *E)/D=G
G= Theoretical Road speed
Note that the clutch can have up to 50rpm difference under heavy load.

Red line(7500rpm) on a H22 trans With stock sized tires:
1st(3.307) - 36.66mph
2nd(1.950) - 62.178mph
3rd(1.360) - 89.15mph
4th(1.071) - 113.20mph
5th(0.870) - 139.36mph
rev(3.000) - 40.41mph

Red line(6500) on H23 with stock tires:
1st(3.307) - 31.77mph
2nd(1.857) - 56.5864mph
3rd(1.320) - 79.606mph
4th(1.034) - 101.625mph
5th(0.812) - 129.410mph
rev(3.000) - 35.027mph

Lol damn that is hella off topic but yeah...

I went out for a ride and I drove til I hit 80mph and I indeed got 4k rpm. When I was smashing it got higher but I just stepped on my clutch to see where it lands and it's the same. If you want to figure it out accurately I guess just press your clutch with out gasing.

Re: h23 speed to gear ratio??

have you ever dropped butterd toast? it always falls butter side down
have you ever seen a cat not land on its feet?
strap toast butter side up on a cats back and drop said combination and in theory the cat and the butter toast will spin creating an anti gravity effect....this is all in good humor guys im not serious by any means lol

and honda verno if you have the stock h23 and the stock h23 trans im guessing mine might have been switched out because i deff go through gears quicker than in my old 92 SI and im at aout 80-83 at 4500 rpm...this could be a good thing i was gonna switch it out anyway with a h22 trans when i did the all motor build
