intake leak?

ok so when put a good load on my car (4th gear 1500-2500rpms) i hear this annoying sound like a turbo spooling up. . . i took my intake tube off and stuck my hand over the throttle body and the motor doesnt die it just idles rediculously low (like 200) rpms. i havent sprayed around the plenum yet with carb cleaner to check but im pretty sure the motor is supposed to die when you close off the tb completely. could someone verify this so i can get the gaskets tomorrow

Re: intake leak?

I have a cold air in take and I just took it off once (well it fell off when I was driving) but basically when I did that when I got to high RPM's it sounded like a turbo spooling X0 so maybe the there is a leak somewhere.

Re: intake leak?

your fine man, thats normal for intakes to do that, u have cold air ur letting alot more air get in, when ur in 4th at 2000rpm ur sucking in a ton of air

Re: intake leak?

My lude used to do that.... only constantly.
From the moment it was cranked i'd hear that noise, I never fixed it but i didnt seem to do any damage.

Re: intake leak?

from your intake tube, u have little hoses going to various places, make sure they are all connected properly, they could make a whistling noise, ive never really killed an engine by covering the throttle body intake, i did hurt my palm on a ford taurus trying to do it, didnt try again after that... but yea, check gaskets replace em, they are old... u want to have pure suction from your cold air intake
