Icon9 HELP ENGINE DIES

hey guys,

I really love this car a lot but right now its giving me a problem that its making me really upset. Last couple days i had a problem with her, i dnt know why bt i was driving and she just die . I tried to start the car and after a while finally she end up staring. Sometimes when i need to stop i have to push gas n brake at the same time so she wont die. Check the altenator and the sparg plugs and they are good. Does anyone know what the problem? Im just driving and she just die and for prevent that i cant let go the gas or i have to give her moore gas so she wont die while im driving or push gas n brake at same time when i need to stop.

Re: HELP ENGINE DIES

it could be your erg valve.
i have the same problem right now.
not enough gas is getting to your engine thats why it dies.
do u have a check engine light?

do you mean egr valve? and if so, that has nothing to do with enough gas getting to your engine. the egr is used to recirculate exhaust gas for emissions purposes. if the reason its dying is because the engine isnt getting enough gas, then it would probably be the fuel pump.

Re: HELP ENGINE DIES

egr valve doesnt have anything to do with gas circulation, buy a fuel pressure guage, attach it to ur fuel rail see what your pressure your at, clogged injectors? pull out each sensor while the car is on on the each injector and see if the car bogs down

Re: HELP ENGINE DIES

probly your fuel relay, or ignition switch most likely. there was an official honda stink about the ignition switch in some [not all] preludes 97-01. i have the paperwork from honda all official, says in some "extreme" cases like yours, the car will either not start at all, or stall out while driving. the fuel relay locks out when its too hot in the cabin, at 100 degrees f i was told. so i'm waiting till spring for that lol.

go to your local honda dealer's service center and tell them about the recall, they will ask for your vin number and see if it was already serviced for the ignition switch. if it hasnt and your car is covered in the switch recall, it should be free. and the relay is very expensive from honda, but is much cheaper online.

Re: HELP ENGINE DIES

doesnt matter, I have 208k on my 5th gen, but it turned out that it had already had the ignition switch done. my fuel relay is my problem, in your case sounds more like your ignition switch is the recalled one honda replaces. check this link out

5th Gen Ignition Switch Recall

I think i could have handled doing the switch myself, but why bother if you can haggle the honda dealer to do it.

Re: HELP ENGINE DIES

what exactly did the dealer say? 200 is a dealer price, which is to say always gonna be too much. if the TSB # actually applies to your prelude model then its worth checking out how to diy the replacement. if it doesnt and that is what the honda dealer said, then it might be the fuel relay or pump.

me personally I would do fuel relay [under your driver air vent] and the ignition switch regardless, then if it persists do the fuel pump and check out all your lines, check everything involved with ignition and idle, battery, alternator, the works. if you do some more research on it I am sure you can figure it out, and there should be a honda paper on how to check the ignition switch if its bad. stalling out at highway speeds is no good homie, make sure you fix that.
