Ball Joint Snapped :P

So I was driving 15mph and my ball joint sheered right below the boot and now the ball joint is still pressed in there and the bolt is also still in there. Now I haven't tried taking the joint itself out yet but that bolt is a *itch, wondering if people had ideas on that and also my cv joint fell out and I was wondering if that is fixable also the bearings fell out of it but i have them and there in good shape. Thanks!

Re: Ball Joint Snapped :P

My Si did the same thing like 2 months ago. So I'll help you out with what I can.
#1) Use that search function in fourth gen section
NEED HELP front axle removal
CV Joint/Axle Help :/
#2) You are totally luck, my inner CV joint exploded, but I was doing 35. The moral of my story was quite simply, HIT IT HARDER. You need the axle off to remove the LBJ, But I don't know if you can fix a CV after it is blown apart.

Good luck, welcome to PZ

Re: Ball Joint Snapped :P

Just replace the ball joint part of the tie rod. Cost me about $18 used. The outer tie rod should be fine. Idk about the CV joint but I just replaced my ball joint/tie rod and it was pretty easy. Have to get an alignment but she's driving fine now The threads on my inner tie rod had just stripped themselves loose.

If you are repairing your CV, props to you, I wouldnt. However, if you are doing your install and having problems, here are two guidlines that helped me.

1) Protect the CV joints. dont stretch em or rip em or you will hate yourself.
2) If you are having a hard time, use more brute force. It Aint a gentle install.

Re: Ball Joint Snapped :P

The cv joint isnt broken it just fell off were the boot is. And the three bearings fell of along with the clamp. So hopefully thatll go right back on, but the thing we are stuck on is dropping the tranny i realise that is not for the ball joint but we are also doin the clutch. The reason we cant do it is cause it gets caught on everything!

WHOA! There shouldnt be any reason to drop the tranny! You have to kinda twist around the suspension parts etc, but you dont have to drop your transmission.
1) Lift car front end
2) connect the interior side of the halfshaft to the tranny(right side) or midshaft(left side.)
3) Stick the other side into the knuckle assembly after running it over your control arms etc
4) Tighten the Spindle nut to 181ft/lbs (I got a breaker bar and more a less stood on it.)
5) use a screwdriver and bend the spindle nut edge into the gap so it cant come loose.
6) Put your wheel on and drive to firestone for an alignment.

You shouldnt need to drop the tranny at all, though if it is your right side you will probably need to refil the transmission fluid.

Re: Ball Joint Snapped :P

My advice after this all being through is to take the whole spindle off and after replacing it she's running like a beast again thanks for all the thoughts guys! :D
