Icon5 which catalytic converter is best

I have a 5zigen exhaust and I'm pretty sure my cat has gone bad because of a nasty smell excessive pinging from it and delayed acceleration along with bad mpg. ive got a new o2 sensor on the way but would like to go ahead and change out the cat to be safe
I have a 92 si with jdm 94 h22a I really just wasn't to know what my best options are cheapest preferably .

Re: which catalytic converter is best

my magnaflow high flow that i bought in april broke a chunk of the core off in the middle and was rattling around like crazy, they replaced it under warranty but it still sucks that it only lasted 5 months

That is EPIC.

I have magna flow, but no catalyst will last you long if you are running rich or have misfires.

Just throw a test pipe on there. Providing your state doesn't check emissions.

Re: which catalytic converter is best

I just bought a magnaflow cat yesterday. Their website is great to find whatever you are looking for. I would get the part# off the magnaflow website and google it along with the word "magnaflow" and check out the prices.

Re: which catalytic converter is best

alright cool, thx guys I'll look into magnaflow. I have been running really rich lately, so I've got new ngk spark plugs, new tps and a new o2 sensor on its way so I'm hoping these and anew cat will help me improve my mileage. I'm getting like 13 mpg right now, and I can barely afford gas at this rate. oh and I live in memphis and emission tests are mandatory.

Re: which catalytic converter is best

Not having a cat on your car is illegal no matter if you live in a emissions place or not, if you are found with out it, the fine is 2 years in prison or $10,000. It is USA law to have cat on your car if it came from the factory with one.

One of my favorite RACE converters are Random Technology.

They are a little spendy, but they are quality. I usually get the 3" in / out high flow

Junkyard + hacksaw (cheapest)

Take it home and torch the bolts out. Don't touch them at the JY.

Re: which catalytic converter is best

The junkyards here cut them all outta the cars and sell them to other companies who extract the precious metals out of them. If you can find a decent quality cat at your junkyard, I will praise you.

You're right. The cats are removed also at my junk yard. I thought I saw one with it but yeah, they don't have the cat in the price list so it must be cut out.
