Preventing rust from getting worse?

My car has the normal Honda rust on the rear quarters. Right now I'm more concerned with getting the car running properly and fixing other issues it has before I take care of the rust and paint. My question is...is there anything I can do to possibly not make it any worse until I get everything else done? Thanks in advance.

Fresh paint and clear coat usually. They might make something that comes in a can, hell everything is in a can now-a-days.

Re: Preventing rust from getting worse?

There's already a hole through I wanna say maybe quarter to half dollar size on the driver side the passenger side isn't so bad. Someone told me to take the molding out of the wheel well so any water that gets in doesn't stay in there. Just wasn't sure so I figured I'd ask if anyone has done it or heard of it?

Re: Preventing rust from getting worse?

you need a product that's going to solidify and stop the rust. there are many products on the market that do this. one that I have used in the past is called "extend". It comes in a can that you need a brush to apply it with, and it also comes in spray cans.

:edit:
it seems one of the reasons I've had a difficult time finding this stuff over the years is the company was bought by loctite. Now I know what to look for, here's a link.

Yea it seems that way I've put in 6 different zip codes around here and the search has come up blank every time.

I would recommend Eastwood Rust Encapsulator, expensive but works great.
