H23 @ High Rpm *cough choke*

So I've just been wondering since I got my BB2, does every stock H23 just choke once it gets to about 5k rpms? Is it just the cam profiles holding it back? I understand it's not meant to rev like the H22, but mine just chokes, literally, when I get close to 5k rpms. So to get to the point...is it normal or do I have a problem?

Re: H23 @ High Rpm *cough choke*

It literally chokes at like 5k. It feels like it's hitting fuel cut (it's not, there isn't any CEL's, it's not in limp mode). I've been thinking it was a clogged cat. The car DOES have 180K miles on it. Might as well replace it and see where that gets me.

Re: H23 @ High Rpm *cough choke*

mine dont choke at all (since i got the new cams =o) but before i never noticed any thing spectacular after 5000 rpm if you had a h22 before than the h23 is a let down if you don't know what to expect

Yeah it's getting swapped eventually. But in the meantime I would like my H23 to run properly. Duh.

Re: H23 @ High Rpm *cough choke*

Ya my H23 is no scalded dog in the upper RPM's but it doesn't straight up choke. Its got about 190,000 on it.

Let me know what you find! I know mine is totally restricted as far as the exhaust.

Re: H23 @ High Rpm *cough choke*

yeah. like at above poster, same deal. BUT, i do have a slightly clogged cat and it has definately been slower in that same rpm range when hot.

in the morning before the cat heats up though...those butterflies open at 4800 and it feels great. No vtec, but not bad.

Re: H23 @ High Rpm *cough choke*

Sounds to me like the timing belt has jumped. That will also cause it to flat line at a higher rpm. Had it happen to a car I had. Would hold it to the floor but wouldn't go over 5 grand.
