Check Engine Scanner?

I'm fed up with lazy, non helpful mechanics. I've been asking around for someone to quickly check to see if I have a bad knock sensor. Plug in a scanner, and turn it on, I'm sure it takes all of 5min. The mechanic who would take the kind gesture to help me would get my timing belt / water pump bill, and whatever else I need done.

Does anyone want to take a minuet to create a good costumer relation? No.

I'm looking for an inexpensive scanner, just something to tell me my codes, and possibly clear them (such as if the knock sensor code is just wrong, happens with new sensors storing old codes). All the one's I've seen are OBOII, which is 96 and up.

I have a 93. Any suggestions? =x

Re: Check Engine Scanner?

& So I dont get flammed, I went to mechanics I know, and who've worked on my car's before. Couple thousands of dollars worth. -.-; And I had talked to them about scanning my car before. Its not like I walked in randomly and expected them to drop what they were doing. But sitting for a hour at each shop, in one case where the guy went to get lunch and left me there, it's bs.

i could be wrong but don't the computer's have a light on them that will throw codes for you. it'll blink once and then blink however many times the code number is, at least mine does, but i have a 90 and i know it's a different computer but i would think they'd still have it

Re: Check Engine Scanner?

You can self-diagnose if you just use a jumper wire on the CEL plug under your dash... It's in the FSM somewheres

Re: Check Engine Scanner?

lmfao, that's because you don't need a scanner, NOR a mechanic to pull a code on OBD1
