Wondering what you guys would pick

A 93 Si that is auto and has 220,000 miles on it. Some rust some body repairs, no front bumper cover and needs a radiator and exhaust. Or a 92 Si that is 5spd, doesn't run, needs painted, radiator, clutch, exhaust and has 170,000 miles on it. Seems pretty simple considering one runs and the other doesn't. The auto is $600. the 5spd is $800. I guess my concern is with the auto I'll eventually be wanting a 5spd swap. So would the slightly cheaper price and the fact that it runs make up for having to do the swap later on? Or should I just do the 5spd now and spend the money to get it up and running?

Re: Wondering what you guys would pick

if you feel comfortable in engine repair and work then I'de say get the '92 Si 5-speed. .. but why stop at these two choices ? .. I'm sure if you look hard enough you could get a 4th-gen that is 5-speed, runs without any problems, and doesn't need a radiator or clutch for right near $ 1500, it'll probably have high mileage but it looks like you don't care too much about that either way .. I say leave your two choices behind and look for something that doesn't need too much work.

I was only looking at those two because it seemed that the others I looked at weren't any better and higher priced. I've been looking for about 2 months now. I do want somewhat of a project but something I can drive as I'm rebuilding if that makes sense to anyone. I'm trying to not be impulsive about this and research and see what people think.

go from ewww to ahhh
i waited for about 5 months till i found a perfectly good running lude and transformed it with a lil elbow grease and some determination still needs work but i know i dont have to worry about any thing going wrong as far as drivability goes. trust me man i was in the same boat its better to get something you don't have to pour cash into just to get around town

Re: Wondering what you guys would pick

The auto aside from the radiator and exhaust seemed to be the better of the two and I can get both of those now from a friend who owes me and have those in a day. I'm still looking just hard in my area where the is little to know preludes around and if they are around people want WAYYYY to much for them. There was one I looked at that the passenger door was completely smashed in and the guy still wanted over 3000 for it.

Keep bugging him, I doubt he has a lot of people interested in it. After a while hopefully he will give in.

Look all you gotta do is point out all the defects in the car and get some numbers on the repairs to throw that at him. LEtting him know thats its gonna cost you more to get that 5spd runnning than what hes selling it for. Ill give him $500 personally

Re: Wondering what you guys would pick

Well according to this guy with the 5spd today he sold it for $1000 so that one is out. I have seen one more not too sure on it I was just driving by and saw it. Body looked a little rough not too bad though either way I got the number called and left a message so we will see. Searching continues for me. Thanks guys for all the opinions. I'm sure I'll be back for more.

I don't think I'd mind fixing one up. I think I would enjoy it and appreciate it more if I had to work for it to be how I want. How long did yours take and what all did you do to it?
